Wiemer Wins Yet Another Award

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - In addition to winning East division Player of the Week honors, softball's Hayley Wiemer has been named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week. Wiemer carries a 4.00 as a secondary education major. Earlier in the week she was named MVP of the Charleston Southern tournament. The Falcons were the champions of the tournament.
"I am so proud of Hayley to receive this award. She exemplifies what a student-athlete should be; not only does she get it done on the field, but this shows she does it in the classroom too," said head coach Shannon Salsburg. "Hayley has done a great job and without her teammates we would not be able to get on base and drive each other home to score."
From the mound, the Sylvania, native hurled 14 strikes, allowing just one hit against Charleston Southern and Providence. She tossed seven strikes past batters in the Providence win for a personal high in tournament play. Wiemer threw four K's and allowed one hit in three innings against Charleston Southern. She threw three K's in seven innings in the win over Campbell.
Wiemer hit one homerun in every day of CSU tournament play, and currently has four on the season. She batted in eight RBI's and was 2-3 against Charleston Southern with an opposite field homerun, a walk and three RBI's. Wiemer went 1-2 against Hartford with two walks and one RBI. She hit a homer off the Providence pitching staff and drove in a pair of runs. Wiemer was 1-2 with two walks, a stolen base and a scored run against Campbell. Se also hit a homerun a in loss to Brown and was 2-3 with two RBI's. Wiemer was the only Falcon to hit homeruns in every day of tournament play.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
