BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Senior Ali Mann was named the Bowling Green State University women's basketball Player of the Year for the 2006-07 season, it was announced Sunday evening (April 22). The team was honored at the annual BGSU Women's Basketball Banquet, held at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union on the BGSU campus.
Mann, who earned the honor for the third consecutive year, garnered the '06-07 award in a vote of team members. Senior Amber Flynn was named the team's Power Player of the Year, while Flynn and classmate Carin Horne shared the Impact-Player-of-the-Year honor. Horne earned that honor for the third consecutive season.
Sophomore Lindsey Goldsberry picked up the team's Most Improved Player award, while junior Kate Achter was the recipient of the Playmaker-of-the-Year award for the third time in as many seasons. Junior Whitney Taylor and Horne shared BG's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, with Taylor earning the honor for the second-straight season.
The Falcons' entire senior class -- Flynn, Julie Gompers, Liz Honegger, Horne, Mann and Megan Thorburn -- received the Falcon Award. Gompers was honored with the Fran & Marty Voll Senior Achievement Award.
The six seniors each had the opportunity to share their thoughts, and the crowd was treated to a spectacular season video, courtesy of Julie Baker of BGSU Instructional Media. The video included photos provided by Brad Phalin of BGSU Photo Services. Additionally, the team's three freshmen, Tara Breske, Laura Bugher and Sarah Clapper, each were presented with their letterwinner's jackets. And, the crowd had the opportunity to view a broadcast-quality video that was put together by Taylor for a class assignment earlier this academic year.
The 2006-07 Falcons, of course, won both the Mid-American Conference regular-season and tournament titles for the third consecutive season, advancing to the NCAA Championships. The Falcons of head coach Curt Miller, associate head coach Jennifer Roos and assistants Brandi Poole and Kevin Eckert finished 31-4 overall, posting the most wins of any team -- men or women -- in MAC history. The Brown and Orange went 15-1 in MAC play, and became the first women's team in conference history to advance to the 'Sweet 16' of the NCAA Tournament.
