BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University women's soccer coach Andy Richards has announced the hiring of Scott Gloden as assistant coach. Gloden will begin his duties immediately.
"I am excited to be here at Bowling Green," said Gloden, who comes to BGSU after spending three seasons as an assistant women's soccer coach at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pa. "I want to thank Coach Richards and everyone at BG for the opportunity to coach at this great University. I look forward to working with Coach Richards and the student-athletes."
Gloden's three seasons at Saint Francis saw the Red Flash post a combined record of 25-25-7, including a mark of 13-8-6 in Northeast Conference action. In 2005, SFU went 11-7-3 overall to set a school record for wins in a season.
Last fall, the Red Flash finished the year with an 8-8-2 overall record and a 4-3-2 mark in NEC action. The last two seasons have seen the program post the only two .500 or better campaigns in school history, and the NEC mark gave the Red Flash three consecutive winning seasons in conference play, also a first for the program.
"The entire team and I are very excited to have Scott join our program and we eagerly look forward to working alongside him," said Richards. "I am positive our current student-athletes will benefit greatly from his coaching experience gained at Saint Francis University, and he will be a valuable addition to BGSU women's soccer as we continue to strive for MAC and national success."
A native of Traverse City, Mich., Gloden spent three seasons (2001-03) as assistant coach for both the men's and women's teams at Saint Joseph's (Ind.) College. The Pumas' women's team posted a 9-11-1 record in 2003, including a 6-4 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
A 1998 graduate of the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in general studies, Gloden earned his master's degree in sports administration from Wayne State in 2001. He has taken courses toward a second master's degree, in education, at Saint Francis.
Gloden has also served as a staff coach with the Pennsylvania West Olympic Development Program (ODP). While an undergraduate in Ann Arbor, he was a member of the U-M club soccer team from 1994-96, helping lead that team to a club national championship. Gloden currently holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National "C" license, which he earned in 2004.
Gloden replaces Erik Burstein, who was named the head women's soccer coach at Kutztown (Pa.) University.
