BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team dropped a 8-3 decision in final game of the weekend's three game series at Kent State. Bowling Green struck first with a run in the third inning, but a six-run surge in the fifth by the Golden Flashes proved to be the difference.
Freshman Mark Galvin reached first base via a walk in the third. He was then vaulted around the rest of the diamond thanks to an RBI-triple into right field by Sophomore Marty Baird. Baird tallied two hits and two RBI on the day.
The Falcon pitching staff was scarred for eight runs in the middle innings. After Kent State exploded for six runs in the fifth inning, they tacked on two more scores in the sixth.
It was deja vu for the Falcons once again in the eighth as Galvin scored from first base following another RBI-triple for Baird. Freshman Logan Meisler followed with an double into left field, scoring Baird and cutting the deficit to 8-3. Unfortunately, the next batter stuck out and the rally was halted.
Freshman Derek Spencer continued his impressive rookie campaign with two more hits, including a single in the top of the ninth. He was stranded however, and the Falcons eventually lost by the 8-3 score.
The Brown and Orange return to action Tuesday, May 8th for a home game against the Raiders of Wright State. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM. BGSU will also host Buffalo over the weekend for a three-game series.
