BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University football team opened up the 2007 home schedule, as well as the Mid-American Conference slate, on a successful note. The Falcons downed Temple University by a 48-35 score Saturday afternoon (Sept. 22) at Doyt L. Perry Stadium.
* Sophomore quarterback Tyler Sheehan has now thrown for over 300 yards in two of his three starts (and threw for 295 in the other). Against the Owls, Sheehan completed 30 of his 47 passes, for 351 yards and a career-high four touchdowns.
* Sheehan has now eclipsed the 1,000-yard passing plateau for the season, after just three games. He has gone 96-for-148 through the air in 2007, for a total of 1034 yards and seven TDs.
* Freddie Barnes caught eight of Sheehan's passes for a game-high 96 yards vs. Temple and two touchdowns. In his BG career, Barnes now has six two-TD games, but Saturday marked his first game with two receiving scores.
* Bowling Green, the 16th-ranked team in the nation in turnover margin (+1.50/game) committed turnovers (1 interception, 1 fumble) on their first two possessions of the contest. BGSU committed three turnovers for the game, but forced the Owls into three as well. All three of those were fumbles, with BG returning one for a touchdown and falling on one in the end-zone for another score.
* Temple's touchdown midway through the first quarter gave the Owls a 7-0 advantage, their first lead of the season.
* Sheehan had a career-high 14-yard run for a BGSU first down. On the very next play, he connected on a 21-yard touchdown pass to Freddie Barnes with just over one minute remaining in the first quarter.
* Sheehan completed passes to eight different receivers on the day. In addition to the eight receptions by Barnes, Corey Partridge had seven grabs for 71 yards. Freshman Willie Geter had five catches for 40 yards, while Marques Parks made four catches for 49 yards and a score.
* In that first quarter Sheehan was 9-for-11 for 98 yards and one touchdown. He completed passes to four different receivers.
* Chris Wright made his first career catch on the Falcons' second scoring drive, an eight-yard reception that put BG inside Temple's 10-yard line.
* Two plays after the Wright reception Barnes recorded a seven-yard touchdown reception, his second of the game, with 11:23 remaining in the second quarter.
* Following Barnes' second touchdown Jahmal Brown forced a fumble on the kickoff with Darius Smith recording his first fumble recovery. On the very next play, Sheehan connected on a 13-yard touchdown to Parks, Sheehan's third touchdown of the first half. The one-play, four-second drive was capped by Sinisa Vrvilo's third PAT of the day to give the Falcons a 21-7 lead.
* Early in the third quarter, Kenny Lewis stripped Josh Bundy at the Temple 35-yardline and returned the fumble for a BGSU touchdown. It was Lewis' first career touchdown.
* Prior to the play by Lewis, the last time a Falcon had returned a fumble for a touchdown was on Sept. 16, 2006, when Jerett Sanderson had a nine-yard touchdown versus Florida International.
* In 24 career games Lewis now has six interceptions, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one touchdown. He has also blocked three kicks.
* Midway through the third quarter Jacob Hardwick sacked Temple's Adam DiMichele in the endzone, forcing a fumble. BGSU's Orlando Barrow recovered the fumble for his first career touchdown.
* With further research pending, the last time BGSU had two defensive touchdowns was at least four years ago.
* BGSU had a season-best six sacks, with Briggs recording two and Barrow chipping in for one and a half.
* * Tyrone Pronty caught a touchdown pass for the second straight game.
* Vrvilo kicked a career-high two field goals in the win, connecting from 42 and 23 yards.
* Jermiah Kelly caught the first pass of his Falcon career, a 46-yard catch-and-run in the fourth quarter.
