Sept. 25, 2007
Farmington Hills, Mich. - The Central Collegiate Hockey Association, entering its 37th season of college hockey, has announced the release of its FSN Detroit, College Sports Television (CSTV), Comcast Local, Big Ten Network and ESPNU schedules for the 2007-08 season that will feature all 12 conference teams in at least one broadcast. Altogether, at least 63 games involving CCHA teams will be televised, including 50 conference regular-season and playoff contests.
FSN Detroit celebrates its 11th season of televising CCHA hockey during the 2007-08 season with a slate of 11 regular-season games (including three contests in the longstanding rivalry between Michigan and Michigan State), first and second-round playoff games from campus sites, as well as all the drama from the CCHA Championships at Joe Louis Arena.
The first FSN telecast, featuring Ohio State visiting Michigan, is set for Friday, November 30. At least eight CCHA teams will appear in regular-season action on FSN Detroit, including four during the third annual "Hockey Day in Michigan" on Saturday, February 16, when Michigan State visits Western Michigan and Michigan plays host to Lake Superior State. Ken Daniels, Matt Shepard and Fred Pletsch are set to share announcing duties in the FSN broadcast booth this coming season.
FSN will continue the tradition of completing the journey on the "Road to the Joe" with the the presentation of both semifinals, live from downtown Detroit, at 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday, March 21. The Mason Cup will be awarded to the new CCHA champion on FSN following the championship contest that starts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 22.
Telecasts of CCHA games are part of the more than 300 live local events presented each year by FSN Detroit that reach more than 3.2 million cable and satellite households in Michigan and portions of Northwest Ohio and Northern Indiana.
Twenty conference games, including a pair of playoff contests, form the nucleus of Comcast Local's new agreement with the CCHA. The Fighting Irish are featured 11 times on the Comcast Local package, including six games from Notre Dame's Joyce Center and their Upper Peninsula visit to Northern Michigan on January 5th. Ben Holden is the primary play-by-play voice for Comcast Local with game analysis provided by Sean Ritchlin and Lyle Phair.
Comcast Local, a midwest network providing sports programming and community-oriented events in Michigan and Indiana, is seen by over 1.6 million customers in communities such as Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint, Muskegon, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Muncie.
CSTV drops the puck on a new season of CCHA coverage on Friday, October 26 with an intriguing non-conference matchup between college hockey powers Michigan and Boston University from Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor. Overall, CSTV will televise a minimum of 10 games with highlights including defending regular-season and playoff champion Notre Dame visiting Michigan on Jan. 18th, preceded by the Irish playing host to defending national champion Michigan State in a 4 p.m. Sunday matinee on January 13th. CSTV rounds out its coverage on Friday, February 22 by showcasing Michigan and Michigan State.
Mike "Doc" Emrick, Matt McConnell and Ben Holden will handle play-by-play assignments for CSTV's Friday Night Hockey package; Dave Starman and Jim Paradise will share the booth as color analysts.
The Big Ten Network is set to air at least four all-CCHA matchups with a pair originating from Ohio State as the Buckeyes host Michigan State on January 18th and Northern Michigan on February 17th. Nebraska-Omaha debuts on BTN on February 1st during a visit to Michigan State and Ferris State makes an appearance in a game at Michigan on February 29th.
