BGSU Brings Home Third Place Finish

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The BGSU women's track and field team hosted their second home meet of the season tonight, walking away with a third place finish. The event took place this evening at the Perry Field House.
The Falcons finished with 116 points in a meet that included two Mid-American Conference schools. The University of Cincinnati took home top place with 141 points. Ball State was a close second place with 130 points, while Eastern Michigan (79) and IPFW (24) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
BGSU got off to a fast start again, racking up a total of forty points in the throwing events. Junior Whitney Hartman took first place in the weight throw with a mark of 18.01m while senior Lauren Bryant followed her teammate in second place with a throw of 17.67m. Junior TaKarra Dunning helped the Falcons rack up points in the first event with a throw of 15.26m and senior Liz Honegger rounded out the scorers list with a sixth place finish hitting a mark of 13.03m.
Continuing the theme of pacing the Falcons in scoring, the throwers finished first, third and sixth place in the shot put. Honegger took home the gold with the best throw of 13.43m. Dunning followed closely with a mark of 13.11m and Hartman added a point to the Falcons total score with toss of 12.67m.
Freshman Brittani McNeal continued her impressive first season with a second place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.62m, while senior Amanda Sefcik followed her teammate with a distance of 5.36m, finishing fifth.
In the pole vault, sophomore Sabrina Forstein was the lone placement for the Falcons, finishing third. Forstein captured six points with a mark of 3.50m.
Senior Jamie Roflow led the Falcons in the distance events. Roflow finished second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:25.18. Carly Bates and Barbara Powers brought home a second and third place finish in the one mile run. Bates had a time of 5:10.72 while her teammate followed closely behind (5:11.92).
For the second week in a row senior Lyndi Springer led the Falcons in the mid-distance events. Springer brought home the gold in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.19 while Autumn Dettmann finished fourth (2:22.16). Heather Conger and Hillary Hewit topped off the scoring for BGSU with a fifth and sixth place finish in the 500 meters. Conger finished with a time of 1:19.57 while Hewit brought home the final points in the 500 meters with a time of 1:20.77
In the 60m dash all three Falcon runners earned points for their team. Shantell Lewis finished fourth with a time of 7.94 while teammates Brittany Johnson (8.05) and Sarah Hooten (8.10) were close behind.
Next on the schedule for the Falcons will be the BGSU Tom Wright Classic which will kick off at 12:00p.m inside the Perry Field House (Friday, Jan. 25).
