Mobile Day Three is complete. For starters the Bowling Green State University football team got to visit the retired USS Alabama battleship on Thursday afternoon. Look here for pictures from the visit as well as other information on the Orange and Brown.
All levels of the battleship were available to walk through. Living quarters could be looked in on, and even how the shipmen slept at night could be seen.
In other news the Falcons participated in another practice, but were treated to a trophy celebration minutes before practice began. Members of the GMAC Bowl pulled up with a bowling trophy and announced that the Falcons had beat Tulsa in the bowling contest last night.
Hello again Falcons, We just had another great day in Mobile. The major bowl event was a lunch and tour of the battleship the U.S.S. Alabama. As we were arriving to the site, Tulsa was just wrapping up their tour. The GMAC Bowl people seemed happy to get them out and welcome us in. The team had a great time walking through the different levels of the battleship. It was obviously not built for 300 lb linemen! My son, Ayden, thoroughly enjoyed going all the way to the top of the ship. There was a great view of the very cold water in the Bay.
The tour of the battleship was sponsored by the Alabama National Guard. The head officer was very polite and articulate, but he slipped up when he compared their recent spurt of cold weather to that of northern Kentucky. Everyone looked at each other, but no one felt like correcting him that BG is actually in Ohio. We all know it's a pretty common mistake.
The hottest attraction of the bowl trip so far has been to do ride alongs with our police escort. The officer in charge of escorting the team is nicknamed "Railroad" and he drives with no regard for human life. I have now had the pleasure of riding in the front and back seats of the escort cars and all I can say is there are moments when you think you might die! But no matter what the buses get to their destinations in a timely fashion.
As always, the team is still doing great. Practice today was
one of the best of the year. I hope everyone's still enjoying 2008
and getting ready to cheer on the Falcons.
Go Falcons!
Kory
