FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced today a distribution agreement with the NHL Network to show 17 regular-season games, live, in Canada on Saturday nights during the 2008-09 season. The BGSU Falcons will be featured in five of those games.
"With 84 Canadian-born players on opening-day rosters, our teams are very excited about the opportunity to enhance the league's television visibility where so many of our student-athletes come from," stated Tom Anastos, who is in his 11th season as Commissioner of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. "This distribution agreement will provide more people in Canada with an opportunity to see the quality, energy and excitement surrounding U.S. college hockey."
The five Falcon games that will be featured include at Notre Dame (Dec. 13), vs. Michigan (Jan. 17), vs. Lake Superior (Jan. 24), vs. Ferris State ((Feb. 14) and at Western Michigan (Jan. 28).
The games shown by the NHL Network in Canada will be produced by Comcast Television of Detroit.
"These games provide the opportunity to showcase an outstanding level of hockey while raising the profile of some outstanding players in their hometowns, home provinces and home states," commented John Shannon, the NHL's Executive Vice President of Broadcasting, who also serves as the Executive in Charge of Production for the NHL Network.
