Jakupcin Goes 1-1 in First-Day Action at ITAs

EAST LANSING, Mich. (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University senior Kelsey Jakupcin split a pair of matches Thursday (Oct. 23), as singles play began at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. Michigan State University is hosting the event, which is taking place at the MSU Indoor Facility.

Doubles Main Draw (begins Friday)
On Thursday, Jakupcin lost her first-round match to Fadzai Mawisire of Southern Illinois University by a 6-2, 6-3 result. Then, she bounced back to pick up a win in straight sets over host MSU's Dana Guentert in the consolation round. Jakupcin won that match by scores of 6-4, 6-1.
BGSU's other representative at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships is Christine Chiricosta. She was placed in the singles main draw, and will begin play on Saturday (Oct. 25).
Chiricosta and Jakupcin are in the doubles main draw, with doubles play starting on Friday (Oct. 24). The BG duo will face the University of Minnesota tandem of Jackie Sperling and Magdelena Wiecha in first-round doubles action.
The regional, which concludes on Tuesday (Oct. 28), is the final fall action for head coach Penny Dean's Falcon squad.
