EAST LANSING, Mich. (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University's tennis doubles team of senior Kelsey Jakupcin and sophomore Christine Chiricosta got off to a good start Friday (Oct. 24), winning their first-round match at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. Michigan State University is hosting the event, which is taking place at the MSU Indoor Facility.
Doubles Main Draw (through Friday afternoon)
Chiricosta and Jakupcin defeated the University of Minnesota duo of Jackie Sperling and Magdelena Wiecha, winning by an 8-4 final. That victory set up a second-round matchup with Amy Allin and Annie McCarthy of the University of Illinois.
On Thursday (Oct. 23), Jakupcin had lost her first-round match in the singles qualifying draw, before winning a consolation match.
Chiricosta is in the singles main draw, which begins Saturday (Oct. 25). She will face Kirsten Flower of Ohio State in a first-round match. Flower is ranked #41 in the nation in the most recent national singles rankings.
The regional, which concludes on Tuesday (Oct. 28), is the final fall action for head coach Penny Dean's Falcon squad.
