CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University freshman Megan Amann has been named a Mid-American Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday (Oct. 27). Amann earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Amann, who shares this week's honor with Eastern Michigan's Stephanie Janssens, is the fourth BGSU player this year to be recognized by the conference office. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Arsenault (Sept. 8) and junior defender Colleen Kordan (Sept. 15) earned MAC Player-of-the-Week accolades in back-to-back weeks, and senior striker Corbie Yee picked up the honor on Oct. 13.
The 2008 season marks the first time that BGSU has earned four MAC P-O-W awards in the same year. Falcon players were honored three times in the 2005 campaign.
Amann, a native of Troy, Mich. (Troy Athens), was involved in the scoring of three of BGSU's four goals last weekend. She had three assists in the Falcons' two wins at Cochrane Field.
On Friday (Oct. 24), the outside midfielder had the game's only assist, as classmate Alyssa Zuccaro headed home her corner kick for the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Kent State.
Then, on Sunday (Oct. 26), Amann (pronounced AY-men) had the primary assist on the Falcons' final two goals in a 3-0 win over Buffalo. She put a left-side cross onto the head of senior Kristin McDonald, who scored the team's second goal of the day. Then, Amann got another assist via corner kick, finding Yee for the final goal against the Bulls.
The two-assist game was the second of Amann's young collegiate career.
On the year, Amann is third on the Falcons in scoring, with 10 points. Amann has a team-leading eight assists, and is tied for the MAC lead -- with Janssens -- in both assists categories (eight assists, 0.42 per game).
Amann's assist total is just two shy of the school single-season record of 10, set by Julie Trundle in 2005.
The Falcons are now 11-5-3 overall, and 6-3-1 in MAC action. BGSU is in fourth place in the 12-team conference standings, heading into the final game of the regular season. BG will host first-place Toledo Thursday (Oct. 30) in a 3:00 p.m. start at Cochrane Field. Then, the Brown and Orange will participate in a MAC Tournament quarterfinal-round match on Sunday (Nov. 2), with site and start time to be determined. BG has qualified for the league tournament for the seventh consecutive season.
