BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
Coach Brandon Audio
The Bowling Green State University football team had a busy day with the media this afternoon (Nov. 24). Here are some of their thoughts.
Coach Gregg Brandon
On the approach to this week's game vs. Toledo
"It's a big game. We still have a chance to get bowl-eligible. Are we going to a bowl game if we win? I have no idea - probably not likely, but there are not enough bowl eligible teams right now anyway. So, if we don't win, we'll never know, so let's go out and get it done and see where the chips fall. It would be nice to get a win against the Rockets, definitely."
On what the team still has to play for
"To get to six wins, to get bowl eligible, to beat Toledo, which is a rivalry game, bragging rights for 364 days. That's all out there for these kids. We talked about that yesterday. It was a tough loss to Buffalo, especially the way we lost the game, and it's been frustrating that way for this team and this group of seniors. I would expect nothing less than a great effort up in the Glass Bowl."
On whether this season has been challenging and frustrating
"That's probably a good assessment. It's been tough. The early schedule was very difficult to manage. Coming out of that 2-2 I think was pretty impressive for this team, but we had injuries as a result of playing that schedule. I'm not saying that was the reason we had our troubles in mid-season, but it sure didn't help. Then we're able to put together a couple of wins to be in the hunt; that's why that game Friday night was so tough to swallow."
On what went wrong at the end of the Buffalo game
"Well, I thought the turning point was when we held Buffalo on fourth and six in their own end, and we didn't move the ball and missed the field goal. I could sense that the kids were like, `Oh, man...'. Still, we need to recover the onside kick. I've got five guys staring at the ball like statues. Nobody went after the thing. That's disappointing more than anything. The game's on the line and we flinched, Buffalo didn't. When you're in big games and a lot of things are on the line, you can't flinch, and that's what happened. We get that, the game is probably over. Make that field goal, the game has a chance to be over. We hold the ball down there and not have to kick a field goal. Just hold it and use clock, or maybe get a touchdown, the game is over. So there were a lot of things that we just completely let slip away down the stretch in that game, and Buffalo capitalized on every one. They wanted to win a championship."
