TOLEDO, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - A number of Bowling Green State University standouts have been named to the 2008 All-Mid-American Conference Team. Junior Colleen Kordan and redshirt sophomore Alexa Arsenault were named to the first team, while senior Corbie Yee has been chosen to the second team. The all-conference team was announced at the MAC Tournament banquet Thursday evening (Nov. 6).
Additionally, first-year Falcons Megan Amann and Alyssa Zuccaro have been named to the MAC's All-Freshman Team for 2008. The All-MAC and all-freshman teams are the results of voting by the league's 12 head coaches.
Arsenault and Kordan each were named to the All-MAC Team for the first time in their respective careers. Yee has earned league honors in all four of her seasons. The 2005 MAC Freshman of the Year, she has been named to the All-MAC Second Team in each of the last three years.
Kordan, a native of Strongsville, Ohio (Strongsville HS), has anchored a Falcon defensive line that has posted a school-record 14 shutouts in this year's 21 games to date. The Falcons have allowed only 14 goals this year, an average of 0.67 per game. BGSU is well ahead of the school-record pace of 1.30 goals allowed per game.
In MAC play, Kordan and the Falcons allowed seven goals in 11 games. BGSU has a goals-against average of 0.64 overall, and had an 0.60 GAA as a team in MAC regular-season action. At the other end of the field, Kordan has scored a career-high eight points this year to date, and she is a perfect 3-for-3 on penalty kicks this fall. Kordan had her first career three-point game, with a goal and an assist in Sunday's (Nov. 2) win over Western Michigan in the quarterfinal round of the MAC Tournament.
Arsenault, a native of Richmond Hill, Ontario (St. Theresa of Lisieux), has recorded a school-record 11 complete-game shutouts this year, and has 17 clean sheets in her career. In only her second playing season, she has matched the school's career record for shutouts.
Arsenault had a school-record shutout streak of 606:31 earlier this season, and has had her 17 career shutouts in only 34 career starts. She has a GAA of just 0.67 this season, and has a career GAA of 0.73. Arsenault posted GAAs of only 0.61 in the 11 MAC games this season, and just 0.42 in home games in 2008.
Yee, who hails from Berea, Ohio (Berea HS), currently has 16 poitns this season to lead the team. She paces the Falcons with six goals, and is second on the team with four assists. Yee had three goals and eight points in MAC games, tying for the BGSU lead in both categories.
She has scored goals vs. Tennessee Tech, Marshall and Xavier in non-league play, and vs. Ball State, Miami and Buffalo in MAC action. The goal in the BSU game came in the second overtime, marking the ninth game-winning goal of her career. She is second in BG history in that category, and has a school-record four 'Golden Goals' as a Falcon. With 19 career goals and 51 points, Yee ranks fifth on both BGSU career charts.
Amann, a native of Troy, Mich. (Troy Athens HS), has 12 points in her first year on campus, tying her for second on the team. She has eight assists to date, leading the team and placing her just two shy of the school's single-season record. Amann -- like Arsenault, Kordan and Yee -- has picked up a MAC Player-of-the-Year honor this season.
Amann tied Yee for the team lead with eight points in MAC games, on two goals and a BG-high four assists. She has had a pair of two-assist games, vs. TTU and Buffalo, and has picked up goals vs. Miami and Toledo. Amann had a three-game point-scoring streak to close the regular season.
Zuccaro, from Mentor, Ohio (Mentor HS), is fourth on the team in scoring, with 11 points to date. She is tied for second on the Falcons with five goals, including a team-high three game-winning goals. Zuccaro had seven points in MAC play, with her three goals in conference action tying her for first on the team.
Zuccaro's first collegiate goal proved to be a game-winner, at IPFW, and she also had the GWG vs. both Miami and Kent State. The latter goal came in a 1-0 win over the Flashes. Zuccaro also scored vs. Northern Illinois, and had a key second-half score in Sunday's win over WMU.
Toledo's Molly Cornwell was named the MAC's Player of the Year for 2008, earning that honor for the second year in a row. Cornwell's teammate, Vicki Traven, was chosen as the league's freshman of the year, while Tom Anagnost of Central Michigan was selected as the MAC Coach of the Year.
The Falcons currently have an overall record of 12-5-4, and BGSU finished the MAC portion of the schedule with a 6-3-2 league ledger, good for a fourth-place finish in the regular-season standings. Head coach Andy Richards and the Falcons, after the 2-0 win over WMU in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals, now face top-seeded Toledo in Friday's (Nov. 7) semifinal round. Kickoff for that match, the second semifinal of the day, is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at UT's Scott Park.
