BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team will face Northern Illinois University in the quarterfinal round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. The Falcons and Huskies will meet on Thursday, Nov. 13, at Lee Jackson Field in Akron, Ohio.
The matchup was determined on Thursday (Nov. 6), when NIU picked up a 2-1 win over Western Michigan to clinch second place in the MAC standings. The Huskies are 9-5-4 overall and finished MAC action with a 4-1-1 ledger.
In the teams' regular-season meeting, the host Huskies got a second-half goal to pick up a 1-0 win over the Falcons in DeKalb nearly two weeks ago (Oct. 18).
Most recently, the Falcons (4-12-2, 0-6-0 MAC) overcame a three-goal deficit to forge a 3-3 tie in Tuesday's (Nov. 4) regular-season finale at Detroit. BGSU, which played that UDM game without five starters, will have been idle from competition for over a week prior to heading to the Rubber City.
The University of Akron won the MAC's regular-season title, in the process earning a first-round bye and the right to host the entire tournament. Three matches will be played on Nov. 13, with the The other quarterfinal matches likely pitting Buffalo vs. Florida Atlantic and Hartwick vs. WMU.
The three winners will join UA for the semifinals the following evening (Nov. 14). The championship match is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 16, at Lee Jackson Field.
