Falcons Look to Claim All-Ohio Title

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - On Sunday (Feb. 3) the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team will travel to Kent State to compete in the All-Ohio. The meet will be a tri-meet against Kent State and No. 22nd ranked Ohio State. The Falcons are 5-0 in their last two meets, and look to continue that streak this weekend. They are currently led by sophomore Breanne Guy who last week posted her top all-around score on the season at 38.475.
Dimming the Golden Flashes
In their last outing Kent State kept Ball State winless by a score of 192.975-186.875. They were led by Kristin Peters who won both the bars and the beam with scores of 9.750 and 9.800 respectively. Freshman Christina Lenny won the vault with a mark of 9.725, her third time winning that event this season. Laci Hendress and Rachel Stuck both scored a 9.775 to win the floor.
As a team the Golden Flashes are 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference. In last year's All-Ohio KSU took second to Ohio State by a score of 195.825-195.325. Historically the Golden Flashes have dominated the Falcons 36-11-1, with BGSU's last win coming back in the 2001-02 season when they beat KSU at the All-Ohio 195.125-194.350.
Cracking the Buckeyes
In their last outing Ohio State lost a close one to N.C. State 193.400-193.625. Senior Kaylan Clevinger won the all-around with a 38.475. Hillary Dow tied for first on the vault scoring a 9.775, while Maalika Moore-Thomas tied for first on the beam with a 9.750.
The Buckeyes are currently 2-1 on the season. They have won the All-Ohio five times out of the seven seasons it has been held. Overall the Falcons have struggled against the Buckeyes going 6-22 overall. Their last win against the Buckeyes was also in the 2001-02 season.
In Their Last Outing
Last week the Falcons finished first out of five teams at Brown University. They posted a team score of 191.475, their second highest on the season. They were followed by Bridgeport (188.675), Brown (185.825), MIT (180.600), and West Chester (174.225).
BGSU had a great outing on the vault where they took the top three spots. Guy posted a 9.825, which ties her season best. Senior Jacquelyn Bernhardt and Morgan Balzer trailed Guy in second and third respectively with scores of 9.775 and 9.600. As a team the Orange and Brown scored a 48.325 which is their second highest on the season.
On the bars the team was led for the second straight week in a row by freshman, Michelle Luchini who placed third with a 9.575. Guy and freshman Lexi Psichopaidas, placed sixth and seventh with scores of 9.500 and 9.475 respectively.
On the beam the Falcons saw Meg Satterlee shine when she placed second with a career high of 9.725. Morgan Balzer (9.575), Katie Follett (9.550), Guy (9.550) and Abigail Ashley (9.500) took sixth through eighth respectively.
BGSU was greeted on floor with another new star in Queenita Gamble who placed second with her 9.675. Bernhardt (9.625) finished in sixth followed by Guy (9.600) who tied for seventh.
MAC Standings
Currently the Falcons sit in second with a MAC record of 1-0 and an overall record of 5-1. Guy's score of 38.475 is the seventh highest all-around score in the MAC. Balzer currently sits in 11th with a 38.050.
Bernhardt still sits claims the top spot in vault scores with a 9.850. Behind her in third is Guy with a 9.825. Satterlee's score of 9.750 puts her in 10th overall. Luchini's 9.775 place her in second on bars. On the beam Guy and Satterlee have the 10th spot with a 9.725, while on floor they hold the top spot with a 9.825.
As a team the Falcons hold the sixth spot with their team score of a 191.950. Their vault score of a 48.550 puts them in second. They have seventh wrapped up on bars with a score of 48.225, while on beam they claim the sixth spot with a 47.900. Finally on floor their score of 48.00 puts them in eighth.

MAC Standings
On the Road Again
After the completion of the All-Ohio the Falcons will have a short week as they head to Muncie, IN to compete against MAC foe Ball State. That meet will be on Friday Feb. 8 at 6:00 p.m. The team will then return home for Alumni Night on Saturday Feb. 16. That meet will begin at 7:00 inside the Eppler Complex.
