BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Coach's Notes; BG vs. BSU
A win is a win. That is my saying for the weekend. It wasn't the prettiest win but it is still a win. The team did hit more routines but our missed routines were huge misses. The youth of our team showed at the competition but they will learn a great deal from this.
Bars is an area we have really been working on hitting our handstands (it's a deduction otherwise) and landing dismounts better. I definitely saw an improvement on the handstands but the team really needs to start sticking landings! We were without Michelle Luchini this weekend because of a sprained ankle in practice. Katie Follett went into the line-up and did an awesome job. She caught her piked yaeger and landed her double layout well.
The team did a great job on vault. We chose to rest Meg Satterlee since her Achilles and shoulder have been bothering her. Without her vault, we knew we would score a bit lower but it was worth it. Jenna, Jacque and Bre all did very nice vaults. We are hoping Jenna will compete a tsuk layout full rather than a tuck full this coming weekend.
We really picked up the pace on floor. Morgan tweaked her knee on her last pass which gave us our only fall of the night. Everyone else did a nice job staying in bounds and really performing their routines. This event will continue to get stronger and stronger for us.
Katie Follett nailed her beam set again and stuck the dismount to start us off well. Unfortunately, Abby and Meg both had major misses with three falls each! We discussed the fact that one fall can never throw off your entire routine and that just cannot happen again. Bre got us back on track and Queenie did a great job anchoring the line up. Our top three athletes did a great job- we just need the rest of the line up to back them up!
Our focus this week is to get back to quality hit routines, be strong unified team and keep a positive training environment. We are dealing with several injuries that are on the mend. We need to get Michelle back on bars, Abby back on floor, Meg back on vault and Morgan back on everything. Jholeen needs to step up her game and we look to a few athletes that have not been in the line-up to start filling exhibition spots so we can make adjustments if need be. There is so much talent on this team- it's time to shine. We can't wait to be competing at home this weekend and take on Central Michigan. What an opportunity to put a meet together. Roll Along!
