BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - On Tuesday the Mid-American Conference announced their Gymnast of the Week and Specialist of the Week awards. This week Bowling Green State University's Jacquelyn Bernhardt was awarded Specialist of the Week for her performance in the meet against Ball State on Friday Feb. 8th.
Head coach Kerrie Beach was very pleased but not surprised that Bernhardt was given this award after her showing at Ball State. "Jacque deserves the recognition for her outstanding vault and floor performance. She has made a huge recovery from a knee injury sustained at our inner-squad, and it is so exciting to see her looking better than ever. Her wins this weekend are truly a tribute to the way she is training."
Bernhardt competed in two events for the Falcons. Her first event was the vault that she and teammate Breanne Guy tied for first with a 9.750. This is Bernhardt's third best score on the vault this season. This also marks the first time this year that she has won that event.
While on floor she won the event for the first time this season by setting a new season high of 9.725. This is the first time she has come in the Top-Five on both of these events in the same meet.
Bernhardt is a senior from Chandler, AZ. Her career high on vault was set last year when she posted a 9.925 at Texas Women's University. This score also puts her second on the all-time vault scores. Her career high on floor came in the 2005 season when she scored a 9.8 vs. SEMO and UWO.
