BGSU Will Face-Off Against MAC Foe Central Michigan on Saturday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - On Saturday February 16th the Bowling Green State University Falcons will compete in a Mid-American Conference face-off with the Chippewas from Central Michigan. The meet will be at 7:00 p.m. inside the Eppler Complex. The Falcons are coming off of a win at Ball State last Friday Feb. 8th. BGSU downed BSU 188.100-187.050. The Falcons were led by the leadership of senior Jacque Bernhardt and sophomore Breanne Guy. For her performance Bernhardt was awarded Specialist of the Week.
Last Week's Mat Battle
Bernhardt took first on both the vault and the floor by scores of 9.750 and 9.725 respectively. This is the first time all season that she claimed first on both events. Guy claimed the all-around with a season high score of 38.550. She tied Bernhardt on the vault for first, took second on bars (9.575), third on beam (9.575) and third on floor (9.650).
Other notable performances came from junior Jenna Wirtanen who scored a 9.550 on vault placing her in fourth. Sophomore Morgan Balzer finished third on bars with a 9.550. Junior Katie Follett and sophomore Queenita Gamble tied for first on the beam with scores of 9.600. Freshman Meg Satterlee followed Bernhardt on floor placing second with a mark of 9.675.
Halting the Chippewas
Central Michigan is coming off of their best performance last weekend by posting a 193.200 in their win over Western Michigan. CMU has seen an improvement of almost two points per meet over their last two contests. Leading the team was Jessica Neel who was named Gymnast of the Week. She posted a career best on three events last week with a 39.025 in the all-around, 9.825 on vault and 9.775 on floor.
The Chippewas enter the meet at 2-7 overall and 1-1 in the MAC. When these two teams faced off last year at Mount Pleasant, CMU was victorious by a score of 195.125-192.775. Overall in the series the Falcons trail the Chippewas 12-21.
MAC Standings
Overall the Falcons are tied with Kent State for first place with a record of 2-0. Overall the Orange and Brown enter the meet 6-3.
Guy's new season score of 38.550 in the all-around has her sitting in 13th place. Bernhardt has fallen to fourth place in vault scores with a 9.850. Guy has the seventh best score on vault with a 9.825. The Falcons best performer on bars is Michelle Luchini who holds the seventh spot with a score of 9.775. On the floor BGSU holds the fourth spot with Satterlee and Guy's score of 9.825. Balzer has the tenth spot with her score of 9.8.
As a team the Falcons have the tenth spot in team overall scores with a 191.950. As a team the Orange and Brown have the fourth best vault score of 48.550. While on bars and beam the team holds the 11th and 10th spots with scores of 48.225 and 47.900 respectively. Finally their floor score of a 48.025 good enough for tenth spot.
Far From Home
After the Falcons celebrate Alumni night the team will take to a four meet stand. Their next meet will be on Sunday Feb. 24th at Western Michigan. That meet will be at 1:00 p.m. Following that meet the Falcons will head back to Kent, Ohio where they will showdown with Kent State. This meet will be on Feb. 29th at 7:00 p.m. The Orange and Brown will look to come home on March 14th where they will host their last MAC meet against Northern Illinois.
