BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - On Tuesday the Mid-American Conference announced their Gymnast and Specialist of the Week awards. This week Bowling Green State University's Queenita Gamble was awarded Co-Gymnast of the Week with Western Michigan's Courtney Lesson. Gamble and Lesson were both awarded this award for their performances in their meet on Sunday (Feb. 24) where the Broncos edged the Falcons 193.400-193.075.
Gamble competed in three evens for the Orange and Brown and set career highs on all three. She started the meet off on vault where she landed a 9.550 tying her career best. On floor she finished tied for second behind her teammate Jacque Bernhardt. She posted a 9.775 which tops her former career best of 9.725. She ended the meet on beam which she won with a 9.775 also a new career high.
Head coach Kerrie Beach was very pleased with her gymnast's performance last week, "Queenite has really stepped up this year and it is great to see her receive recognition for her efforts. Her performances at Western Michigan were truly exceptional. Her vault was clean, her floor was expressive and her beam was solid. We look forward to her continually hitting on those three events."
Gamble is a sophomore from Racine, WI. This is her first time winning the event.
Gamble and the Falcons will take to the mats on Friday (Feb. 29) against MAC leaders #24 Kent State. That meet will begin at 7:00 p.m. on the campus of KSU. The team will then take a short rest as they return to competition on Saturday (Mar. 1) at #20 Penn State. This meet will also begin at 7:00 p.m.
