BGSU Will Visit Detroit for O'Reilly ESPNU BracketBusters

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will play at the University of Detroit Mercy in a 2008 O'Reilly/ESPNU BracketBusters game. The Falcons will take on Detroit at UDM's Calihan Hall on Saturday, Feb. 23, with tipoff time set for 4:05 p.m.
The 2007-08 season marks the sixth year of the event, and BGSU has a 7-3 record in BracketBusters-related games. Earlier this season (Nov. 17), the Falcons defeated Morehead State, 86-70, in a return game from the 2007 BracketBusters event. BGSU has also had home-and-home series with UIC, Youngstown State, Arkansas-Little Rock and Wright State through the BracketBusters event.
Detroit currently has an overall record of 5-16, and the Titans are 1-10 in Horizon League play, heading into a Thursday (Feb. 7) game at YSU. Two of UDM's wins this season have come against Mid-American Conference teams, as BG will be the fifth MAC squad to meet the Titans this season. Detroit downed visiting Kent State, 61-60, in the season opener (Nov. 10), and picked up a road win at Eastern Michigan, 72-68, later that month (Nov. 28). UDM has had narrow home losses against Western Michigan (59-60; Nov. 19) and Central Michigan (66-70; Dec. 1) this year.
The Falcons and Titans have not met for three years, but this season's meeting will be the 33rd between the teams. The Titans hold a 21-11 series advantage, but BGSU has won the last two meetings.
The Titans' roster features a familiar name. UDM sophomore Josh Samarco is the younger brother of former Falcon Martin Samarco, who scored over 1,000 points in two years at BGSU.
The BracketBusters game will be a homecoming for three members of the Falcon program. Junior Darryl Clements, sophomore Otis Polk and assistant coach LaMonta Stone all hail from the Motor City.
The Falcons, currently 10-10 overall and 5-3 in MAC action, begin a two-game homestand Wednesday (Feb. 6), facing Central Michigan University in a 7:00 p.m. start at venerable Anderson Arena.
