Fan Voting For 2008 Frozen Four Skills Challenge Features Falcon Senior Derek Whitmore

(BGSUFalcons.com) - Bowling Green State University senior forward and tri-captain Derek Whitmore, has been selected as 1-of-66 finalists this season for the 2008 Frozen Four Skills Challenge, which fans can vote for online at www.NCAA.com. Whitmore who has 26 points this season on a new career season-high 21 goals, was 1-of-166 original players to be trimmed down to this group of 66 players that fans can vote for online from now till Feb. 14.
The Rochester, N.Y. native is just four goals shy of entering the school's all-time career list for goals with his 64 career tallies, while he is also just eight points away from being the Falcons' 69th-play to reach 100 career points.
If selected to participate in the event, Whitmore would represent the West team in the event that brings together both the men's and women's game. Both squads, East and West, will feature six selected positional players from each gender and two selected goalies from each.
The original list of 166 players was trimmed to 66 by the event's selection committee. Fans can vote for their favorites among the 66 players, which are vying for the 16 spots on each team. The selection committee will take all voting into consideration prior to making its announcement of the final rosters in mid-February.
The Frozen Four Skills Challenge will be held April 11 at the Pepsi Center in Denver and will highlight the "Friday Night at the Frozen Four." The night will also include the presentation of the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, the Hockey Humanitarian Award and the announcement of the American Hockey Coaches Association All-American teams.
HobeyBaker.com is also currently hosting fan voting for the Hobey as well. Whitmore is among three Falcons in the voting for the Hobey, along with junior defenseman Kevin Schmidt and freshman forward Jacob Cepis.
