Last Home Meet Produces Third Place

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The BGSU women's track and field team ended their long home stint with the closing of the BGSU Quadrangular. In an event that pinned the Falcons against three Mid-American Conference opponents, BGSU came home with a third place finish with 124 points. Central Michigan finished first with 170 points, while the University of Toledo (128) took second place and Ohio University (109) took fourth.
The Falcons got off to a quick start thanks to the throwers who racked up a quick 16 points which was good enough to earn the top two spots in the weight throw. Whitney Hartman took first place with a toss of 18.09 meters while teammate Lauren Bryant (18.07m) finished a close second.
BGSU carried over their success from the weight throw to four other field events, accruing a total of 38 points. Freshman Brittani McNeal led all jumpers in the long jump with a mark of 5.43 meters. Senior Amanda Sefcik (5.35m) helped BGSU earn five more points with a fourth place finish.
The Falcons' lone competitor in the pole vault, Sabrina Forstein took second place with a high mark of 3.49 meters.
Newcomers Elizabeth Stone and Emily Mays added seven points to the Falcons over all total with a fourth and eighth place finish in the high jump. Stone had a mark of 1.52 meters while Mays had a jump of 1.42 meters.
The last field event of the evening brought home eight points for the Falcons. Senior Liz Honegger led the BGSU shot put team with a toss of 13.73 meters placing her fourth against the competition while teammate Whitney Hartman (13.41m) finished seventh.
The only competitor for the Falcons, Freshman Barbara Powers took home a second place finish in the 5,000 meter run. Powers had a time of 18:12.93.
The Falcons gained valuable points in the short distance events earning 13 points between the 60 meter, 200 meter, and 400 meter dash. Freshman teammates Sarah Hooten (8.05s) and Brittani McNeal (8.06s) added seven points to the Falcons total finishing sixth and seventh in the 60 meter dash. McNeal added an eighth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.99 seconds while teammate Rachel Doughty (27.14s) added a ninth place finish.
BGSU excelled in the 800 meter run bringing home the top two positions. Senior Lyndi Springer led all competitors with a time of 2:17.35 while Sophomore Hillary Hewit (2:21.44) finished second.
Senior Jamie Roflow continued her successful season in the 3,000 meter run. Roflow blew away the competition, finishing over 15 seconds ahead of second place with a time of 10:01.32. Freshman Megan Kelsey added an eighth place finish with a time of 10:51.29.
The Falcons will take their show on the road to compete in the All-Ohio Championships in Findlay, Ohio next Friday (Feb. 15) and Saturday (Feb.16).
