BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's soccer Falcons opened their spring schedule with a pair of wins over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Canada's Sigma Academy. Today's (Apr. 2) originally scheduled contest with Tiffin has been canceled.
In the first of two Saturday games, Chris Jurtovski and Gavin Dozier combined for the Falcons' scores as BGSU put away UW-Parkside, 2-1. Jurtovski would score again in BG's 4-1 rout over Sigma Academy. Thomas McLean, Chuko Evwaraye and Paul Nettey also found the back of the net in that second win.
Both games consisted of two thirty-minute halves.
"It was nice to get outside after a long winter; at least I think winter is over," joked head coach Fred Thompson. "This was our first opportunity to play on a big field and in the elements.
"While the results are nice, the spring is about development and how we are progressing as a team and as individuals. These exhibition games give me an opportunity to see some players who had limited or no time in the fall. It was good to see Chris [Jurtovski] out there competing for the first time as a Falcon. We moved a few players around to see how they'd do in different positions - it provided some useful information. What I'll be looking to see is how much better we are when we face our next opponents."
Not having to wait long for that next game, BGSU will face the University of Cincinnati at 11:00 a.m. and the University of Dayton, who finished the season ranked ninth in the Mid-West Region, at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 5. Both matches will be held on UD's campus.
