BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's golf team came into Tuesday's final round with a three shot lead at the 2008 Falcon Invitational, a lead they would not need. The Falcons fired a 54-hole score of 946, 15 strokes ahead of runner-up Siena (961). Fellow Mid-American Conference opponent Ohio finished third (981). The BGSU "B Team" finished fourth (1,003).
This is the third tournament victory for the Orange and Brown in the last three years. In 2006 the Falcons won the YSU/Taco Bell Invite and in 2005 they won the St. George Invitational.
Individually the Falcons were led by a pair of seniors in Carley Hrusovsky (80-75-78) and Jessica McCann (80-76-77). Both shot 54-hole scores of 233 en route to tournament medalist, their first tournament victory for both seniors in their second-to-last tournament of their careers.
Freshman Lauren Glew was just four shots of the senior duo, carding a 237 (75-80-82). Glew finished in a tie for fourth.
Seniors Lindsey Jonkhoff (243, T-7th) and Amanda Bader (256, T-17th) also competed for the Falcons top squad.
The BGSU "B Team" carded a final round 334, just eight shots off the pace of Ohio and five shots behind Siena, despite only playing with four golfers (meaning all four scores had to count).
They were led by Hannah Lambert (244, 9th), Marisa Glew (251, 14th), Megan Gormley (252, 15th) and Megan Bader (256, T-17th).
Up next for the Falcons will be the MAC Championships on April 25-27, hosted by Northern Illinois. The 72-hole event will take place at the Brickyard in Indianapolis, Indiana.
