Eleven Falcons Selected To Phil Steele's All-MAC Preseason Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Phil Steele's College Football Preview, one of the nation's most informative preseason football magazines, has announced that 11 members of the Bowling Green State University football team have named to his preseason All-MAC squad. The Falcons had one member named to the first team, three to the second team, six to the third team and one Falcon was named honorable mention.

Senior linebacker John Haneline was the lone Falcon selected to the first team. Despite missing the final four games of 2007 he still finished second on the team with 96 tackles. The North Olmested, Ohio, native had a career-high 18 tackles versus Miami and had 15 stops in a win over Minnesota.
Finding their way to the second team were running back Anthony Turner, wide receiver Freddie Barnes and defensive end Diyral Briggs.
Turner, who did not become a fulltime running back until the midway point last season led the team with 519 yards on the ground and nine touchdowns. He also had 22 receptions for 185 yards and one score and helped in the passing game as well, throwing three touchdowns on the year on just five attempts.
Barnes led the team in receptions (82), yards (962) and touchdowns (9). His 82 catches were the third most in school history for one season of action.
Briggs, who was just recently named to the Bronco Nagurski Watch List, earned first team All-MAC honors last season after recording 54 tackles and five sacks.
Phil Steele's All-MAC third team included quarterback Tyler Sheehan, linebacker Erique Dozier, defensive backs Kenny Lewis, Antonio Smith and P.J. Mahone, along with kicker Sinisa Vrvilo.
Sheehan, who earned third team All-MAC honors last season finished the year with 3,264 yards and 23 touchdowns. He became only the fourth quarterback in school history to surpass the 3,000-yard plateau. He earned MAC Offensive Player of the Week three times last season, including a 388-yard effort in a 32-31 win over Minnesota.
Dozier led the team with 112 tackles and 9.0 tackles for loss. He had five contests where he recorded double-digit tackle efforts.
Lewis did a little bit of everything last year. He finished seventh on the team with 61 tackles, while chipping in with 10 pass breakups, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one interception.
Smith earned third team All-MAC honors last season after recording 80 tackles, five pass breakups, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.
Mahone finished the 2007 season with 90 tackles and seven interceptions, earning second team All-MAC honors. He also had 220 return yards on those seven picks, establishing a new school record for return yards.
Vrvilo is the final member of the third team. The first year Falcon made 15-of-19 field goals (79%) and made all 47 of his extra point attempts. He was a perfect 9-of-9 on field goals under 40 yards.
Senior wide receiver Corey Partridge was the lone BGSU member to earn honorable mention on Phil Steele's team. Despite missing five games last season the Loveland, Ohio native still finished second on the team in receptions (46) and yards (453).
