BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has undergone a reorganization of its external areas. The changes, announced by BGSU Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Greg Christopher, largely impact staff members in the marketing and development offices.
Mary Ellen Gillespie has been promoted to Assistant A.D. for Development. Gillespie originally came to BGSU in December of 2006 as Director of Major Gifts for Intercollegiate Athletics.
"Mary Ellen has made a tremendous impact in a short time at BGSU," said Christopher. "The experience and structure she will bring to our development operation is important at a key time. The Falcon Club must continue to grow and we have two ambitious facility projects running concurrently - the Stroh Center and the BGSU Ice Arena renovation."
Gillespie, a native of Sayville, N.Y., came to BGSU from Purdue University, where she was the Director of Development for the Schools of Nursing and Health Sciences. Prior to that time, she served as Vice President of Advancement for the North-American Interfraternity Conference in Indianapolis from 2000-2005. She also was Assistant Director of Student Life at the University of Iowa from 1998 to 2000 and served as Coordinator of Greek Affairs and Off-Campus Concerns at Plattsburgh State University of New York.
Gillespie earned her bachelors degree in speech communication from Plattsburgh State in 1994 and her masters in counseling-student affairs practice from the same institution in 1997. She also earned a certificate in fund raising management from the Indiana University Fund Raising School in May of 2002.
Along with Gillespie's promotion, Jane Myers and Scott Seeliger have undergone title changes. Myers is now the Falcon Club Director, while Seeliger is Varsity BG Club Director.
Additionally, Brian Delehoy has been promoted to Assistant A.D. for Marketing. Delehoy will oversee the areas of ticket sales and operations, which move from the business office to the marketing area, and is responsible for the department's licensing efforts.
"Brian has worked hard to position BGSU Athletics in the marketplace and he's done a nice job connecting with student and campus groups," said Christopher. "The timing is right to bundle our key marketing functions. Licensing, marketing and ticketing all belong under the same broad umbrella."
Delehoy, born and raised in Anaheim, Calif., came to BGSU in September of 2005 on an interim basis, and was named Promotion and Sales Manager just under a year later. He was named the athletics department's Director of Marketing and Promotions in December of 2006.
Delehoy received his Bachelor's degree in business administration with concentration in marketing from Cal State Fullerton in 2002, where he began his career in intercollegiate athletics as a marketing assistant for Titan Athletics from November of 2001 to June of 2004.
Just prior to coming to BGSU, Delehoy was Director of Ticket Sales for the Fullerton Flyers of the Golden Baseball League during their inaugural season of 2005.
Within the ticketing area, Cheryl Henke has been hired as the Director of Ticket Sales. Henke's specific responsibilities will focus on increasing the Falcons' season ticket base and selling group ticket packages for BGSU athletic events.
Henke, a BGSU graduate, returns to her Alma Mater with an extensive background in the areas of sales and marketing. Most recently, Henke worked with Clear Channel Radio as an Account Executive selling advertising for WIOT-FM. She also worked as an Independent Contractor for WNWO-NBC 24.
Prior to returning to Northwest Ohio, Henke enjoyed a lengthy tenure with Universal Television in Chicago, IL. She was named a Regional Manager of Affiliate Relations in 1988, promoted to Senior Manager in 1995 and was named Regional Director of Affiliate Relations in 1998, working a seven-state territory.
Scot Bressler has moved from the BGSU Athletics Ticket Office into the business office, and has been named Assistant Director for Financial Affairs. In this role, Bressler manages the Athletic Foundation accounts and accounts receivable, as well as performing a myriad of other functions for the business office.
James Davis and Justin Zenz have been named BGSU Athletics Ticket Office Assistant Supervisors, and have taken over the day-to-day operations with the Anderson Arena ticket office. Both Davis and Zenz are graduate assistants at BGSU, working toward their Master's degrees in business at the University.
