PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Former Bowling Green State University baseball and football-star, Andy Tracy, saw action in his 137th career Major League Baseball game on Sunday evening, as he was called up by the Philadelphia Phillies from Triple-A Lehigh Valley for injured outfielder Geoff Jenkins. Tracy, a Bowling Green native, had been hitting .288 with 21 homers and 84 RBI in 120 games with the IronPigs, as Sunday's game marked the first time the former BGSU infielder and punter had seen MLB action since 2004 when he participated in 15 games for the Colorado Rockies.
In one plate appearance on Sunday, in a pinch-hitting role with the Dodgers ahead 2-1, Tracy drew a ninth-inning walk that advanced Shane Victorino to second base with two outs. Victorino was then plated on an RBI-single to right-center by Pedro Feliz that tied the game at two, as the game went to extra-innings.
That walk for Tracy to get Victorino into scoring position in the ninth, proved to be a pivotal point in the game. After Feliz tied the game at 2-2, he would win the game in the bottom of the 11th with a three-run homer to left center, as the Phillies earned a 5-2 victory and closed to within a half-game of the National League East-leading New York Mets.
For Tracy, the walk was the 30th of his MLB career, where he has a career .304 on-base percentage, collecting 10 career doubles, 13 career homers and 41 career RBI.
In his four-year Falcon career, Tracy (1993-96) hit 45 homers and drove in 141 RBI, as both totals rank in BGSU's career top-10 list for both categories. His 45 career homers are tied for first on the all-time BG list with Kelly Hunt, a current member of the Detroit Tigers' organization.
Tracy, 34, was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 16th round of the 1996 MLB amateur draft. He signed with the Expos on June 10, 1996. He was inducted in the BGSU Hall of Fame class of 2006.
