BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team is in the midst of preparations for the 2008 season, the 12th campaign in program history. Members of the Falcon squad reported Tuesday (Aug. 5) morning, and had several organizational meetings scheduled for the opening day. The team will kick things into high gear Wednesday (Aug. 6), with the 'Falcon Fitness Test' in the morning, followed by a pair of practices later that day.
Head coach Andy Richards begins his ninth season at the helm of the Falcons, and welcomes back a total of 18 letterwinners, including nine starters, from last year's team. The 2007 BGSU squad finished with an overall record of 10-9-3 and placed fourth in the Mid-American Conference with a 6-5-0 league ledger. BG advanced all the way to the championship match of the MAC Tournament for the fourth time in five seasons.
This season, Richards and assistant coaches Scott Gloden and Tiffany Hansen have six seniors, seven juniors, five sophomores (including one redshirt sophomore) and 10 freshmen on the 28-player roster.
"We are very excited to start the preseason, particularly with the large group of returnees as well as a solid group of newcomers," said Richards. "We are pleased to have everyone in camp and healthy, and we are ready to get going."
The Brown and Orange will open the 2008 season on Friday, August 22, with a match under the lights at Cincinnati. The home portion of the regular season commences Sunday, August 31, with a 1:00 p.m. match vs. Michigan State at Cochrane Field.
