Chiricosta Captures Crown at BGSU Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Sophomore Christine Chiricosta lost only one game in the championship round of her singles flight, en route to a title Sunday afternoon (Sept. 21). The win was part of the action at the second and final day of the BGSU Invitational.

Chiricosta breezed past Youngstown State's Anna Volkova, winning the first set by a 6-1 count, and winning all six games in the second set, to capture the crown at the second singles flight.
No team scores were kept at the nine-team invite, but singles and doubles champions were crowned in each flight.
Chiricosta also won the second-flight singles title in last year's BGSU Invitational, in her first weekend of action for the Falcons. She has an all-time record of 6-0 in singles and 5-1 in doubles at the BGSU Invite.
A pair of Falcons posted runner-up finishes in singles action. Junior Katia Babina extended Akron's Carolina Castro Cota to a third-set tiebreaker before falling in the fourth flight. Senior Libby Harrison also battled to a third set, before Cleveland State's Myra Pepino won that championship match at the fifth flight.
Senior Stefanie Menoff finished third in sixth-flight action, dropping only two games in her win over Cincinnati's Jessica Wise in the third-place match.
Junior Samantha Kintzel won the back draw at the third singles flight, with a straight-sets win over Xavier's Kaitlyn Zinn.
The Falcons will be in action again next weekend, heading to East Lansing, Mich., for the Spartan Invitational.
