
Huskies Defeat Falcons, 3-0

DEKALB, Illinois - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team dropped their second straight Mid-American Conference match this evening (Sept. 27) as Northern Illinois defeated the Falcons, 3-0 (17-25, 21-25, 20-25). The Falcons are now 10-6 overall and 0-2 in the MAC.
The Huskies took an early 8-3 lead over the Falcons in the first set as they recorded seven straight points. The Falcons battled back with a four-point run to cut the Huskies' lead to two, 12-10. The Huskies continued to score points in a row with two three-point runs defeating the Falcons, 25-17 in the first set.
The Falcons started to turn things around in the second set as they scored four unanswered points to take a 7-4 lead. However the Huskies came right back with their own four-point run to recapture the lead, 10-8 over BG. The Falcons worked to side-out right away keeping the set close but a late three-point run gave the Huskies set point. The Falcons were able to fight off one NIU set point but the Huskies were able win the second set, 25-21.
Down two sets the Falcons came out firing in the third set stringing together five straight points to take an early 7-3 lead over the Huskies. The Orange and Brown followed that up with a three-point run to extend their lead to five, 11-6. However the Huskies once again fought back with six straight points to take a 14-13 lead. The set remained close until the Huskies were able to score five straight points extending their lead to five over the Falcons, 21-16. The Falcons never gave up and continued to fight as they were able to escape one NIU set point but the Huskies took the third set, 25-20.
Leading the Falcon offense for the second straight match was Corey Domek with 12 kills. Meghan Mohr and Sam Fish each recorded 16 assists, while Chelsey Meek continued to lead the defense with 19 digs.
The Falcons will return to action as they host MAC East Division foes Ohio (Oct. 3) at 7:00 p.m. in BG's MAC home opener and Kent State (Oct. 4) at 7:00 p.m.
