BGSU Concludes Play at Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University tennis team concluded play at the Spartan Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 28). The Falcons of head coach Penny Dean went a combined 17-10 in weekend action at the invite, hosted by Michigan State University.
No team scores were kept at the two-day, eight-team tournament. Over the two days, each school faced three opponents in singles action and three in doubles play.
On Saturday, the Falcons had gone 5-1 in singles play vs. both Cleveland State and Detroit, while taking one of three doubles matches against host MSU.
On Sunday morning, the Falcons competed in doubles against Marshall and Akron. The duo of sophomore Christine Chiricosta and senior Kelsey Jakupcin won their doubles match vs. Marshall, but that was the only win BGSU competitors could pick up in the doubles portion of the day's play.
In singles action, however, the Falcons rebounded to go 4-2, with Chiricosta, junior Samantha Kintzel and seniors Stefanie Menoff and Libby Harrison each winning their matches against their Toledo opponents.
That aforementioned quartet -- Chiricosta, Harrison, Kintzel and Menoff -- each went a perfect 3-0 in singles action on the weekend. In fact, through two weekends of the 2008-09 season, Chiricosta has a perfect 6-0 singles record, while the other three are each 5-1 to date.
The Falcons will return to action on Oct. 10, heading to Kalamazoo, Mich., for the three-day Fall MAC Invitational.
