Women's Soccer Falcons Begin Three-Game Homestand

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team, after opening the 2008 season with four of the first five matches on the road, returns to Northwest Ohio for a three-game homestand ... the Falcons of head coach Andy Richards will welcome Tennessee Tech to town for a Friday (Sept. 12) match ... kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. at Cochrane Field ... then, the Brown and Orange will host Marshall in Sunday (Sept. 14) action, in a 1:00 p.m. start.

ARSENAULT NAMED MAC PLAYER OF WEEK
Redshirt sophomore Alexa Arsenault was named the MAC Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday (Sept. 8) ... a native of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Arsenault earned the honor for the first time in her BGSU career ... she had 10 saves and a goals-against average of just 0.48 last weekend, helping the Falcons to a win and a tie on the road.
LAST WEEKEND
The Falcons picked up a win and a tie on the road, outscoring the opposition by a 5-1 aggregate ... BGSU exploded for its highest offensive output in nearly three years, posting a 4-0 win at IPFW Friday night (Sept. 5) ... then, the Falcons came from behind for a 1-1, double-overtime tie at Ohio State Sunday (Sept. 7) ... three freshmen scored their first collegiate points at IPFW, including Alyssa Zuccaro, who notched what proved to be the game-winning goal ... junior Stacey Lucas, senior Kristin McDonald and fifth-year senior Gina Rossi also scored goals for the Falcons, while redshirt sophomore Alexa Arsenault and senior Christy Zabek combined for the shutout in goal ... Arsenault made four saves in nearly 77 minutes of action, while Zabek made one save ... at OSU, senior co-captain Brianne Eisenhard scored the Falcons' goal off a rebound of a Rossi shot in the 74th minute ... Arsenault had six saves vs. the Buckeyes.
FALCON FRESHMAN FIRSTS
Several Falcon freshmen got their young careers kick-started over the weekend ... Alyssa Zuccaro scored her first collegiate goal to open the scoring at IPFW ... the goal also proved to be her first GWG ... classmate Leah Johnson picked up her first collegiate point with an assist on the play ... less than seven minutes later, Megan Amann's cross found the head of junior Stacey Lucas, who deposited it in the net ... the assist, the first of Amann's young career, came less than two minutes after she had checked into the match.
FOUR FOR FALCONS IN FORT WAYNE
The Falcons' total of four goals at IPFW was BG's highest in nearly three years, since a 4-0 win over Buffalo on Oct. 16, 2005, at Cochrane Field ... the Falcons had not scored as many as four goals on the road since Oct. 1, 2004, in a 5-1 triumph at Cleveland State.
ABOUT THE FALCONS
The Falcons are 1-2-2 on the young season, after the win at IPFW and the tie at Ohio State last weekend ... BG had opened the campaign with a 3-1 loss at Cincinnati (Aug. 22), then battled Oakland to a scoreless draw (Aug. 29) before falling to Michigan State, 3-0 (Aug. 31) ... fifth-year senior Gina Rossi currently leads the Falcons in scoring, with five points ... Rossi has a team-high two goals and one assist ... four other Falcons - seniors Brianne Eisenhard and Kristin McDonald, junior Stacey Lucas and freshman Alyssa Zuccaro - have one goal apiece, while frosh Megan Amann and Leah Johnson each have one assist ... redshirt sophomore Alexa Arsenault has started all five matches, and has 33 saves and a 1.37 goals-against average ... senior Christy Zabek has played over 31 minutes of shutout ball in two relief appearances ... BGSU returned 18 of 23 letterwinners, including nine starters, from a 2007 squad that went 10-9-3 overall and 6-5-0 in MAC play ... the '07 Falcons finished in fourth place in the final conference standings, then advanced all the way to the MAC Tournament's championship match for the fourth time in five seasons ... the returning Falcons combined for nearly 90 percent of the team's goals scored, almost 88% of the total assists and 89% of the overall points amassed by last season's club ... additionally, the two returning goalkeepers combined to start 21 of the team's 22 matches last fall ... senior Corbie Yee was the Falcons' top scorer a year ago ... Yee led a balanced scoring attack with 13 points, while Lucas and sophomore Meagan Moran each return after scoring 12 points apiece ... Lucas led the Falcons with five goals, while Moran had four goals and four assists to rank second on the team in both categories ... Yee paced BGSU with five assists, and tied Moran for second with four goals ... sophomore Jackie Tamerlano had nine points, while junior Faith Juillerat and soph Katie Stephenson each had five points ... in goal, Arsenault was 7-3-3 with a team-high 63 saves and a team-low GAA of 0.82 in her initial playing season ... Zabek had a 3-5-0 record with 32 saves and a 1.93 GAA ... she also made two huge saves of penalty kicks during the PK phase of the MAC Tournament semifinal match.
THE OPPONENTS / THE SERIES
Tennessee Tech is 1-4-0 on the season ... the Golden Eagles are coming off a 4-1 loss to Vanderbilt on Sunday ... TTU's win came vs. Appalachian State Friday, 1-0 ... Ashley Smith and Katie Hoover have two goals apiece, while goalkeeper Kaitlyn Thacker has 39 saves and a 4.00 GAA ... the Golden Eagles went 4-10-4 overall and 2-5-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference a year ago ... first-year head coach Becky Fletcher inherited 12 letterwinners from that club ... the school's athletics web site is www.TTUsports.com.

Marshall will take a 2-0-2 record into a Friday match at Toledo, before meeting BGSU two days later ... the Thundering Herd played a pair of 2-2 ties at their own invitational last weekend, against The Citadel and Radford ... FINAL THOUGHTS (A FEW MORE FALCON NOTES)
Junior Stacey Lucas, after her goal at IPFW, now has career totals of eight goals and 20 points, ranking second among active Falcons • fifth-year senior Gina Rossi now has seven goals and 18 points, third on both of those lists • Rossi has topped her scoring total for each of the last two seasons ... she had one goal for two points in both 2006 and '07, and now has five points this fall to date ... Rossi had nine points as a true freshman in 2004 • Kristin McDonald's goal at IPFW was the fourth of her career, and her first since her freshman season of 2005 ... McDonald now has 11 career points ... ironically, McDonald's last goal came the last time BG had four goals in a game, vs. Buffalo on Oct. 16, 2005 • Alyssa Zuccaro's goal at IPFW broke a scoring drought of 305:06 for the Falcons.
