CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Three Bowling Green State University men's soccer standouts have been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league office announced Wednesday (Dec. 31). Juniors Chuko Evwaraye, Jacob Lawrence and Hunter Van Houten all were named to the squad.
Lawrence and Van Houten each earn the honor for the second consecutive year, in their second year of eligibility. Evwaraye has been chosen to the team for the first time. The Academic All-MAC Team is the result of voting by the faculty athletics representatives at conference institutions.
With three selections, BGSU tied for the most players on the 2008 Academic All-MAC Team. Akron and Northern Illinois also had three players each named to the team, while Buffalo, Florida Atlantic and Western Michigan each had one student-athlete chosen.

Evwaraye had a pair of two-goal games, vs. Centenary and Detroit. He scored BG's first and third goals in the come-from-behind win over Centenary. The Falcons had trailed by a 2-0 score with under 30 minutes before rallying for a 3-2 win. Evwaraye also had BG's first and third goals as the Falcons rallied from three goals down for a 3-3 tie at UDM.
In addition to the Centenary game, which came in the Central Arkansas Tournament, he also scored the winning goal in BG's home shutout of Wright State. Evwaraye was named to the all-tournament team at the UCA Tournament. He is the career leader among 2008 Falcons with eight goals.
In the classroom, Evwaraye entered the fall, 2008, semester with a 3.43 cumulative grade-point average as an architectural/environmental design studies major.
Lawrence, a native of Brandon, Miss. (St. Joseph), was named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team at the conclusion of the season. He played in 16 games, starting 15, and had eight points on four goals. Lawrence finished second on the Falcons in goals, and was tied for second on the team in points.
Lawrence was named to the all-tournament team in all three of BGSU's tourneys this year, including picking up MVP honors at the BGSU Invitational. He was named the MAC Player of the Week and MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week one time each during the year.
Lawrence had four goals in a three-game span, including a two-goal game at Central Arkansas. He scored the game-winning goal in that game, in overtime, for the first 'Golden Goal' of his BG career. Then, he notched the winner in the Falcons' very next game, the home opener vs. IPFW. Lawrence now has career totals of six goals and three assists for 15 points.

Van Houten, a native of Valparaiso, Ind. (Valparaiso H.S.), played in 17 matches, making 16 starts. A co-captain for the second-straight season, he was named to the all-tournament team at two of BGSU's three tourneys in 2008, earning the honor at UCA and at the BGSU Invitational.
Van Houten had a pair of assists on the year, coming against Central Arkansas and Detroit. He now has career totals of 14 points on four goals and six assists.
The 2008 Academic All-MAC award is the latest honor to a growing collection of accolades for Van Houten. A two-time MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week in 2007, he picked up a MAC All-Tournament Team honor in '06.
In the classroom, Van Houten had a 3.93 cumulative GPA as a health science major entering the fall semester.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, one must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
