BGSU will host Akron, Oakland and Youngstown in first meet of the season
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—The Bowling Green State University Swim Team is set to kick off the 2009-10 season with the Tom Stubbs Relay, this Friday, Oct. 16, at 5 p.m., inside Cooper Pool. The Falcons will play host to the Oakland Golden Grizzles, the Akron Zips and the Youngstown State Penguins.
Last season, the Falcons took first place finishes in five of the nine relays and finished in the top three in the remaining races.
The Tom Stubbs Relay is named after famed BGSU swim coach, Tom Stubbs (head coach for the Falcons from 1963-1981), who coached Falcon swimmers for 18 seasons. During his time as head coach, Stubbs led the men's swim team to 102 wins. In his final four years as head coach, Stubbs coached both the men's and women's swim teams. As head coach of the women's swim team, Stubbs led the Falcons to a 29-5 record, three state championships and a Mid-American Conference Title. In 2007, Stubbs was inducted into the BGSU Hall of Fame.
The BGSU swimmers will begin conference competition in two weeks when they travel to Eastern Michigan University on Friday, Oct. 30, and Ball State on Saturday, Oct. 31.
