BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Head coach Kerrie Beach's thoughts on the Falcons' season high team score and 192.975-191.600 win over Western Michigan (Feb. 13).
I was thrilled for our team to get the win over Western Michigan University. I have really put them under stress in practice and they have responded well. They really look like a new team. We still have a great deal of work to do but we are finally on the right track.
Vault was a frustrating start to the meet with two missed landings but senior Jenna Wirtanen and junior Breanne Guy really stepped up, scoring 9.75 and 9.8 respectively. Craig and I really got them fired up after that and they took the challenge well.
Bars was solid with a team score of 48.40. The end of our line up really hit routines! Amber Brewer and Kasey Fillmore both contributed 9.725 scores and Breanne Guy scored a hug 9.825. The meet was close at this point as we headed over to balance beam.
Beam wasn't perfect but we did not count a fall on this event. Senior Katie Follett started us off well with a 9.675. Breanne Guy once again stepped up with a 9.775. We continue to get better on this event.
Floor has been the toughest event for us this season and we have put in a lot of time and effort over the past few weeks to correct this. The team put up a solid 48.375 for our highest tally of the year. We will continue to work on this event but I was happy to see freshman Molly McKinnon do a great job, scoring a 9.725. Jenna Wirtanen also stepped up scoring a 9.7 and Breanne Guy capped off a terrific night with a 9.775.
Our final score was 192.975, beating WMU's 191.60. I was especially happy to see Breanne Guy score a career high 39.175 in the all-around. This is the third highest all-around score in school history.
Coming up, we have Ohio State visiting Anderson Arena at 2:00pm on Sunday, February 22nd, 2009. We need everybody to come out and fill the arena and support Falcon Gymnastics. It's going to be a fantastic match up. Roll Along!
