Falcons Host State Rival, #16 Ohio State In Last Home Meet

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University gymnastics head coach Kerrie Beach and the Falcons will wrap-up their first full season in their new nest in Anderson Arena as they host state rival, No. 16 Ohio State on Sunday (Feb. 22) at 2:00 p.m. The gymnastics team will honor seniors Katie Follett and Jenna Wirtanen in their final home meet as a Falcon in a post-meet ceremony.

THIS WEEK'S MATCH-UP ON THE MAT
Falcons vs. Buckeyes • (2/22 • 2:00 p.m.)
The Falcons will wrap-up the 2009 home season and three meet home stand against state rival, No. 16 Ohio State ... the Buckeyes are currently 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the Big Ten after falling to Illinois 195.675-196.700 (Feb. 15) ... the Buckeyes lead the Falcons 23-6 in the all-time series ... the last match-up between the state rival was last season at the All-Ohio, where the Falcons fell to the Buckeyes, 194.175-190.700 ... the Falcons' last win against the Buckeyes was in 2002 (195.125-194.450) when BG won the All-Ohio at Kent State ... the Orange and Brown's last home victory over Ohio State was in 1980, as the Falcons defeated the Buckeyes 133.70-131.40 ... the Falcons' opened the long time series against the Buckeyes winning five out of the six first match-ups including the first for meets from 1975-1978.
FALCONS SWEEP WEEKLY MAC HONORS
After defeating the Broncos, 192.975-191.600 (Feb. 13) and leading their team to a season high team score and season high scores in three of four events the Falcons swept the weekly Mid-American Conference gymnastic honors announced by the conference office (Feb. 17). Junior Breanne Guy was named MAC Gymnast of the Week, while senior Jenna Wirtanen was named MAC Specialist of the Week. This is both Guy's and Wirtanen's first career MAC weekly honor.
FALCONS RANKED 38TH IN THE NATION
After recording a season high 192.975 (Feb. 13) the BGSU gymnastics team is currently ranked 38th in the nation with an RQS score of 190.980. The Falcons are only two places shy of the top 36th and automatically earning a bid to NCAA Regionals. With five meets left the Falcons look to continue moving up the ranks and to a NCAA Regional appearance.
GUY'S CAREER HIGH ALL-AROUND EARNS HER MAC GYMNAST OF THE WEEK
Breanne Guy was named MAC Gymnast of the Week (Feb. 17) after capturing the all-around crown with a career high 39.175, the third best all-around score in BG history and her second all-around win of the season against the Broncos (Feb.13). She won three of four events, tying for second in the fourth event. Guy placed first on vault landing a 9.800, first on bars swinging to a career high and tying BG's eighth best all-time program score with a 9.825, first on beam for the second consecutive meet with a 9.775 and tied for second on floor with a 9.775, tying her season best. She has now won seven event titles and two all-around titles on the season.
WIRTANEN VAULTS TO MAC SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK
Jenna Wirtanen was named MAC Specialist of the Week after having her best meet of the season against the Broncos (Feb. 13). Wirtanen vaulted to a second place finish as she stuck a 9.750 on the vault. She also helped the Falcon floor line-up record a season high score of 48.375 as she tumbled her way to a 9.700, tying her season high.
FILLMORE AND BREWER CONTINUE TO SET THE BAR HIGH
Amber Brewer and Kasey Fillmore continued to set the bar high for the Falcons uneven bar line-up recording two of the top-three finishes for the second straight meet as they both swung their way to a 9.725 tying for second place (Feb. 13). Brewer recorded her second consecutive second place finish after posting a career high 9.775 last meet against Kent State (Feb. 7). Fillmore picked up her third straight second place finish on bars after tying her career best 9.775 the last two previous meets. Both Brewer and Fillmore have been a staple for the Falcons on bars as they both have recorded a 9.725 or better in four of the six meets including four second place finishes by Fillmore and a first place and two second place finishes by Brewer on the season thus far.
FALCONS HONOR SENIORS
In their first full season in their new nest in Anderson Arena the Falcons have posted a 2-2 thus far, with one meet to go. The Falcons will wrap-up their home portion of their schedule in Anderson Arena and host state rival, Ohio State on Sunday (Feb. 22) at 2:00 p.m. BGSU gymnastics head coach Kerrie Beach and the Falcons will honor their seniors, Katie Follett and Jenna Wirtanen in a post-meet ceremony on Sunday (Feb. 22).
FALCONS BUILD A NEW NEST FOR 2009
The Falcon gymnasts built a new nest in Anderson Arena for all home competitions starting in 2009. This was the first season that all home gymnastics meets were held in Anderson Arena. The Falcons kicked off their home schedule with a 189.575-187.325 win over Ball State (Jan. 18). After three meets and a 2-1 record in Anderson Arena the Orange and Brown will wrap-up their opening season in Anderson Arena against state rival Ohio State on Sunday (Feb. 22) at 2:00 p.m. (Admission Prices for all home meets are $5 for Adults and $3 for Youth/Seniors/Military.)
FALCONS BUCK BRONCOS, 192.975-191.600
The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team was able to find their groove as they bucked the Western Michigan Broncos, 192.975-191.600, recording a season high team score and season high scores in three of four events (Feb. 13). The Falcons move to 2-4 overall and a 2-3 record in the Mid-American Conference. The Orange and Brown were led by junior Breanne Guy who recorded a career high and the third best all-around score in BG history with a 39.175, including three straight event wins and a second place finish.
FALCONS CONTINUE TO CORRAL BRONCOS AT HOME
The Falcons continued their long history of corralling the Broncos on their home turf as they remain undefeated, 19-0 against Western Michigan at home. The Falcons defeated the Broncos 192.975-191.600 (Feb. 13).
FALCONS AGAINST THE MAC
The Falcons own four of the six all-time series against their MAC opponents. The Falcons lead Ball State (21-12), Eastern Michigan (18-18), Northern Illinois (9-5) and Western Michigan (24-7-1). The only MAC teams to lead the Orange and Brown in their all-time series are Central Michigan (13-21) and Kent State (11-39-1).
