With the win, the Anteaters improve to 7-1-1 on the season, while the Falcons fall to 4-5-0 overall.
UCI got a goal from Mar Rodriguez at the 26:52 mark, off a Devon Delarosa assist. That one-goal lead stood up until the game's 84th minute, when the 'Eaters' Milana Shabestari took advantage of a BGSU defensive misplay, stealing the ball and finding Tanya Taylor in the box for an insurance goal. Both Rodriguez and Taylor now have four goals on the year.
The Anteaters peppered the BG defense with 23 shots, including a total of 16 on goal. By contrast, BGSU had just five shots, with two on target.
Redshirt junior Alexa Arsenault played the first half in goal, stopping eight of the nine SOG she faced. Freshman Laura Arnold played the second half, giving up one goal and making five saves. The Falcon defense was also credited with one 'team save' on the day.
At the other end of the pitch, UCI 'keeper Danielle de Seriere made two saves en route to her second shutout of the weekend. The Anteaters defeated Utah Valley State, 2-0, on Friday (Sept. 18).
The Falcons now return to the Midwest to prepare for the Mid-American Conference schedule. BGSU begins league play next weekend, with a Friday (Sept. 25) match at Northern Illinois followed by a Sunday (Sept. 27) contest at Western Michigan.
FALCON NOTES
* Freshman Laura Arnold's total of five saves was the highest of her young collegiate career ... she now has a total of 10 saves this season to date.
* Another freshman, Sarah VonderBrink, made her first collegiate start ... VonderBrink was injured in the season opener at Ohio State (Aug. 21) and missed the next five games ... but, she has played in each of the last three contests.
* Head coach Andy Richards played a total of 24 different players in Sunday's game, including every healthy field player on the BGSU roster ... the only two Falcons who did not see action were redshirt freshman Becca Ison, who played the second half of Friday's UC Riverside match, and true freshman Jenny Fowler, who is out with an injury.
* Freshman Amie Bannister made her collegiate debut in Sunday's match.
