The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team concludes a stretch of six consecutive matches away from home this weekend, with a pair of Mid-American Conference games ... the Falcons of head coach Andy Richards travel to Muncie, Ind., to take on Ball State University in Friday (Oct. 2) action ... kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the BSU Soccer Field ... then, the Brown and Orange will travel to Oxford to face Miami University on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 4) ... that game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Miami Soccer Field ... following this weekend's matches, the Falcons will play four-straight contests at home, beginning with a game vs. Ohio University on Friday, Oct. 9.

ABOUT THE FALCONS
BGSU has an overall record of 4-6-1, including a mark of 0-1-1 in MAC play, entering Friday's Ball State game ... the Falcons are 3-1-0 in home games, 1-4-1 in road contests and 0-1-0 in neutral-site matches to date ... BGSU opened MAC action last weekend, earning a 1-1 tie at Northern Illinois before falling, 3-2, on a last-minute goal at Western Michigan ... the Falcons have scored 12 goals and allowed 16 this year to date ... BG's top-four scorers all are sophomores, while a freshman is fifth on the team ... sophs Megan Amann and Alyssa Zuccaro are tied for the team lead with seven points apiece ... Johnson leads the team in minutes played with 963, while Bland has played 915 and Almond 907 ... in goal, redshirt junior Alexa Arsenault has started nine matches, and has a 3-5-1 record, a team-high 46 saves and a goals-against average of 1.26 ... redshirt freshman Becca Ison has a GAA of 1.13, in nearly 159 minutes of work ... true freshman Laura Arnold has played 135 minutes, and has a 1-1-0 record and a 2.67 GAA ... head coach Andy Richards is in his 10th season ... he welcomed back 18 letterwinners, including nine starters, from a 2008 club that finished 12-6-4 overall and 6-3-2 in the MAC.
FALCON COACH ANDY RICHARDS
BGSU head coach Andy Richards, in his 10th season at the helm, is one of the most successful mentors in MAC women's soccer history ... he has guided the Falcons to an overall record of 97-90-20, and a record of 52-43-10 in MAC regular-season play ... BGSU is 10-5-5 in MAC Tournament matches during his tenure, and no coach has as many trips to the league tourney title game as Richards (five) ... two of those appearances – in 2004 and 2005 – resulted in MAC Tournament titles and trips to the NCAA Championships ... Richards and the Falcons also won the '05 regular-season crown ... BGSU reached an agreement with Richards on a two-year contract extension in May of 2008 ... his contract now runs through June 30, 2011 ... Richards had inked a three-year contract in February of 2006, marking the first time in school history that a soccer coach had received a multi-year contract.
LAST WEEKEND
The Falcons went 0-1-1 on the road on the opening weekend of MAC action ... BGSU picked up a point with a 1-1, double-overtime tie at Northern Illinois on Friday (Sept. 25), before dropping a 3-2 contest at Western Michigan Sunday (Sept. 27) ... sophomore Alyssa Zuccaro scored the Falcons' goal at NIU, just two minutes after BG had fallen behind in the first half ... redshirt junior Alexa Arsenault played all 110 minutes, and made a total of five saves ... at WMU, a goal with just 57 seconds left in the second half gave the Broncos the victory ... freshman Sarah VonderBrink scored her first collegiate goal, while soph Katelyn Turner also found the back of the net for the Brown and Orange ... Arsenault had three saves in net.

• 11-2-1 at Cochrane since the start of the '08 season, with the only losses in that time coming to Michigan State (Aug. 31, 2008) and Saint Bonaventure (Sept. 11, 2009);

• 1-1-0 in Oct. 4 matches over the years, with both of those games coming at home (a 4-2 loss to Western Michigan in 1998 and a 3-0 win over Marshall in 2002);
• 46-1-1 in the last 48 games when scoring first (16-0-0 since the start of last season); and
• 0-12-3 since the start of 2008 in matches in which the opponent scored first.
FALCONS PICKED THIRD
The Falcons were picked to finish third in the conference in 2009, according to the preseason coaches poll, released Aug. 20 ... Toledo was the coaches' choice to win the '09 MAC regular-season and tournament titles.
THE OPPONENTS / THE SERIES
Ball State will enter Friday's BGSU match with a 3-6-0 record, and the Cardinals are 1-1-0 in MAC action ... BSU began the season with five consecutive losses, but the Cards have won three of the last four games ... last weekend, Ball State lost to Kent State, 4-0, on Friday afternoon (Sept. 25) before picking up a 1-0 win at Buffalo Sunday (Sept. 27) ... the team's other wins came over SIU Edwardsville (3-2; Sept. 13) and Lipscomb (4-0; Sept. 18), in Ball State's only two home games to date ... Megan Ridley has team-high totals of three goals and seven points ... The Falcons trail Ball State, 6-3-2, in the all-time series between the teams, but BGSU is unbeaten in the teams' last two meetings ... the last three games between the Falcons and Cardinals each have required double overtime ... last fall, the Brown and Orange got a Corbie Yee goal (with assists from Katie Stephenson and Samantha Bland) for a 1-0 double-OT victory at Cochrane Field (Oct. 10, 2008) ... Alexa Arsenault picked up the shutout ... BG headed to Muncie twice in 2007, with the Cardinals winning the regular-season meeting, 3-2 (Oct. 19, 2007), and the teams battling to a scoreless tie several weeks later in the MAC Tournament's semifinal round (Nov. 9, 2007 – BG advanced on penalty kicks) ... The Falcons trail Miami, 8-7-0, in that series ... however, after losing the first eight series meetings, BGSU has won seven-straight matches vs. the RedHawks ... the Brown and Orange has gone 3-4-0 in games played in Oxford ... last year (Oct. 12, 2008), BG picked up a 4-0 win at Cochrane Field ... Alyssa Zuccaro, Megan Amann and Katelyn Turner each scored a goal in that match, while Arsenault made seven saves for the shutout ... two years ago (Oct. 21), in the Falcons' most recent trip to MU, Stephenson's goal in the second overtime gave BG a 1-0 win, with Arsenault earning the shutout.
WORKING OVERTIME
The tie at Northern Illinois Friday (Sept. 25) gives the Falcons an all-time record of 18-14-24 in overtime matches ... believe it or not, the Falcons have a record of 7-1-13 in OT matches on the road ... a few other Falcon overtime facts ...
• The Falcons are 9-11-9 in home overtime games and 2-2-2 in neutral-site OT affairs;
• BGSU is unbeaten in the last 11 OT matches, having gone 4-0-7 in that stretch ... the team's last OT loss was the Falcons' only road overtime setback, at Ball State on Oct. 19, 2007;
• BGSU went nearly four years without an overtime loss, going 5-0-5 ... after an OT setback vs. Ohio State on Halloween of 2003, the Falcons did not allow a 'Golden Goal' until Sept. 14, 2007, against Wright State;
• Beginning with that WSU game, the Falcons were winless in four consecutive OT matches (0-3-1) before a win at Miami (Oct. 21, 2007) began the current 11-match unbeaten streak;
• BGSU is 3-2-5 in MAC Tournament contests that required overtime ... the Falcons advanced via penalty kicks in four of those five ties, meaning that BGSU has moved on in seven of the 10 league tourney OT matches in program history.
A FEW FINAL FALCON NOTES
As mentioned earlier, BGSU's top-four scorers this year to date are sophomores – Megan Amann, Alyssa Zuccaro, Katelyn Turner and Leah Johnson – and the fifth-leading scorer, Keely Chandler, is a freshman ... 10 of BG's 12 goals this season have been scored by freshmen or sophs • the Falcons are 0-1-1 in MAC play through the first weekend of conference action ... the last time BGSU did not have a win after two league games was in the 2004 season ... that year, the Brown and Orange started MAC action with a record of 0-3-1 ... but, the '04 Falcons went 3-0-1 in the final four conference games to earn a berth in the MAC Tournament, then won three more games to capture the league tourney title and advance to the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history.
