Falcons Sweep Southeastern Louisiana To Close Weekend

New Orleans, La. – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team closed out a 2-1 weekend by sweeping Southeastern Louisiana in the team's final match of the Radisson New Orleans Airport Privateer Invitational Saturday. The Falcons rolled to a 25-14, 27-25, 25-18 win to improve to 6-1.
The victory was the 493rd of Head Coach Denise Van De Walle's 27-year career and gave Bowling Green its best start since the 2001 team started 7-1. Southeastern Louisiana dropped to 1-5 on the season with the loss.
The Falcons were never tested in the opening set, jumping out to an early 13-3 lead and never allowing the Lions to get closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Bowling Green jumped out to another quick lead in the second set, opening up a 9-3 lead. But Southeastern Louisiana chipped away at the deficit and eventually tied the score at 15-15. The Lions had an opportunity to win the set with a 24-23 lead but a Kaitlin Jackson kill tied the score. Southeastern Louisiana took a 25-24 lead on an Arianne Cruckshank kill, but Emily Kauth posted a kill and the Lions had back-to-back attack errors to give Bowling Green the 27-25 win.
Southeastern Louisiana started out better in the third set and trailed just 18-17. But Bowling Green scored six consecutive points, two on Kauth kills, to put the match away.
For the match, Southeastern Louisiana hit just .105 while Bowling Green attacked at a .290 clip. Kauth ended with a team-high 10 kills and a .562 swing percentage, while Corey Domek and Cassie Berning had eight kills each. Alex Zlabis had 12 digs and Allison Kearney posted a double-double with 35 assists and 10 digs.
Bowling Green will finally play in front of a home crowd for the first time in 2009 this weekend. The Falcons will host the Best Western Falcon Plaza Invitational Friday and Saturday with Wisconsin Green Bay, Northern Iowa, and Robert Morris.
