Almond makes the team for the second consecutive year, having been named to the third team in 2009. As a first-team all-district selection this fall, she is now eligible for consideration on the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-America Team, which will be announced later in November.
Almond is the lone Mid-American Conference student-athlete to be selected to an all-district women's soccer first team.
Chandler was named to the all-district team for the first time, in her first year of eligibility.
Almond, a native of Findlay, Ohio (Findlay H.S.), started all 20 matches for the Falcons in 2010. A team co-captain, she was on the field for 1901 of the 1908 total minutes this season. A central defender in '10, Almond had three assists on the year, including the first two-assist game of her career against Xavier. She also had an assist in the Falcons' win at Indiana State.
As mentioned, Almond was named to the academic all-district third team as a junior. She also was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team a year ago. The 2010 Academic All-MAC Team has not yet been named.
For her career, Almond played in a total of 67 matches, making 41 starts. She had 10 career points, on three goals and four assists.
In the classroom, Almond has a 3.96 cumulative grade-point average as a health science major.
Chandler graduated from Rochester (Mich.) Adams H.S., and now calls Ladera Ranch, Calif., home. She played in 15 matches off the bench in 2010, with a total of two points. Those points came at Ball State, as she scored the first goal of the game late in the first half.
In her first two seasons at BGSU, Chandler has played in 35 matches, with 10 total starts. She tied for the team lead with three goals in 2009, and has eight career points on four goals.
Chandler maintains a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA as a biology (pre-medicine) major.
The CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District University Division Team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, a student-athlete must hold at least sophomore status, be a starter or key reserve, and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
The 2010-11 academic year marks the 10th time a women's soccer team has been selected. Prior to the 2001-02 academic year, women's soccer student-athletes were part of the Fall-Winter Sports At-Large ballot.
