Baseball Recognizes Successful Season at Annual Banquet

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University baseball honored last year's graduating seniors, former players as well as its on and off-field award winners this past weekend at the team's annual post-season banquet. Fourteen different players were recognized individually and all of last year's team received accolades for winning a third consecutive MAC East championship.

The most decorated young men in the room had the most face time as the ten graduating seniors were honored for their efforts in turning the BGSU baseball program into a winning one. The class accumulated a 139-102-1 (.576) over their four-year careers and a 73-63 Mid-American Conference record in that time. Their 91-65-1 overall record over the last three seasons was the best of any MAC team over that period of time.
With the leadership of this group and well as the rest of the players and staff in the room, BGSU baseball has won a MAC East title in each of the last three seasons and had won back-to-back MAC championships in 2008 and 2009.
Last year the Falcons turned in a 31-23-1 record and finished 18-9 in conference play. Their season turned around near mid-April when the Falcons went on an 11-game winning streak and finished their final 29 games with a 23-6 record making it to the conference tournament semi-final round, including a win over the eventual MAC Tournament Champion Central Michigan Chippewas.
In front of a packed house in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union's Multi-purpose Room, the seniors left the incoming freshman in attendance with the message that their time will go faster than they can even imagine, so enjoy it while continuing the winning tradition of BGSU baseball.
Falcons Jon Berti, Kevin Leady, Derek Spencer, Patrick Martin and Matthew Pitzulo received awards for being named to a host of Mid-American Conference accolades for their on and off the field performances. A complete list of those honored and rewarded for their accomplishments is below.

Hitter of The Year- Denny Vaughn and Jon Berti
