Falcons Dive into 2010 MAC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—Head coach Keri Buff and the Bowling Green State University swim team (1-6 overall; 1-6 MAC) will compete at the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championships from Wednesday, Feb. 24 through Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, Ohio. Preliminary heats of the championships are set to begin at 11:00 a.m. with finals set for 7:00 p.m. The 2010 MAC Championships are hosted by the Miami Redhawks.
Competing for the title of 2010 MAC Champions will be the Akron Zips (4-7 overall; 2-5 MAC), the Ball State Cardinals (10-7 overall; 1-6 MAC), the Buffalo Bulls (8-3 overall; 4-3 MAC), the Eastern Michigan Eagles (5-6 overall; 3-4 MAC), the Ohio Bobcats (10-2 overall; 5-2 MAC) and the Toledo Rockets (11-2
overall; 7-0 MAC). 2010 championship hosts, the Miami Redhawks, are the 2009 defending MAC Champions.

Falcons in 2009-10 MAC Contests
• At the Calvin Winter Invitational hosted by Calvin College, senior Meg Richardson broke a BGSU school record in the 50-yard freestyle, touching in at 23.41. The previous school record was 23.43, a time set by Richardson at the 2008-09 MAC Championships. Following her performances at the Calvin Winter Invitational, Richardson won MAC Swimmer of the Week (Dec. 8, 2009). Going into the 2009-10 MAC Championships, Richardson time in the 50 free is the second fastest time in the MAC, while her times in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events are the first and third fastest in the conference, respectively.
• Emily Bennet, a freshman from Seaforth, Australia, ranks 16th in the 50 free, 15th in the 100 free, eighth in the 200 free and tenth in the 200-yard backstroke
• Freshman Alexa Harris holds the fifth and 14th spots in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events.
• Freshman Alexis Kain, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, ranks ninth and 19th in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events.
• Sophomore Amanda Rom, also from Cincinnati, Ohio, ranks 17th and 13th in the breaststroke events.
• Junior Sarah Burston, a native of Sydney, Australia, is seventh in the 100-yard butterfly, 14th in the 200-butterfly and fourth in the 200-yard IM.
• Vicky Yu, a sophomore from Shenyang, China, ranks 14th in the 100 fly and sixth in the 200 fly.
• 15 Falcon relay times rank among the top 20 fastest times in the MAC, including the fifth and 16th times in the 200-yard freestyle relay, the seventh, eleventh and 20th fastest times in the 400-yard freestyle relay, the sixth, ninth, 12th and 19th fastest times in the 800-yard freestyle relay, the tenth, 15th and 16th fastest times in the 200-yard medley relay and the sixth, 12th and 19th fastest times in the 400-yard medley relay.
At the 2008-09 MAC Championships…
• …Vicky Yu set a new BGSU school record and earned a gold medal in the 200-yard butterfly.
• …Sarah Burston won bronze in the 200-yard butterfly.
• …Meg Richardson set school records in the 50-yard freestyle (24.43) and the 100-yard freestyle (50.80).
• ...Sarah Burston broke a school record in the 100-yard butterfly (54.67).
• ....Amanda Rom set a school record in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.03).
• ...Five Falcon relay squads broke school records.
o Meg Richardson, Carrie Enright, Sarah Reinink and Sami Jordan in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:32.72)
o Meg Richardson, Alisha Yee, Vicky Yu and Sami Jordan in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:24.52).
o Alisha Yee, Vicky Yu, Megan Bomicino and Sami Jordan in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:26.14).
