OXFORD, Ohio—In keeping up with the record-breaking campaign started by the 800-yard freestyle relay squad yesterday (Feb. 24), senior Meg Richardson shattered the BGSU 50-yard freestyle record of 23.41—a record previously held and set by herself earlier this season—sprinting in for a time of 23.09. Richardson's time tonight fell just short of the Division I NCAA B Standard qualification time of 23.02.
Richardson's record tonight is her second of the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championships as she was also a member of the 800 freestyle relay.
Teammates Jamie Akenberger, Sarah Burston and Sarah Reinink each psoted season best times in their respective events.
In the preliminary round of today's races, Akenberger, a native of Bowling Green, Ohio, dropped 15 seconds off her previous best time of the season (5:15.20) in the 500-yard freestyle, for a new season best time of 5:00.21. Akenberger's time tonight is also a new personal best.
In the next event, junior Sarah Burston swam her fastest time of the season in the 200-yard individual medley, touching in with a time of 2:06.28. At the 2009 MACs, Burston earned a spot in the BGSU record books recording the third fastest time in school history (2:04.28).
Last but certainly not least, Sarah Reinink swam her season and personal best time in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 23.68 in the preliminary heats. In finals, Reinink sprinted in at 23.70, out-touching the 14th place finisher from Miami by just one-one hundredth of a second (23.71).
In relay events, the BGSU relay squad of Richardson, Emily Bennet, Reinink and Carrie Enright nabbed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 1:33.08.

At the end of the second of four consecutive days of competition at the 2010 MAC Championships, Toledo (260) increased their lead over the second place contender by 42 points. Ohio mainted second (218) while Eastern Michigan jumped up three spots to take over third (166). Akron and Buffalo held strong in fourth (163) and fifth places (156) while Miami (Ohio) fell to sixth (150). Ball State (77), in seventh, is just barely out scoring BGSU (70),in eighth, by seven points

The 2010 MAC Championships will resume tomorrow (Feb. 26) at 11:00 a.m. at the Nixon Aquatic Center in Oxford, Ohio. Events include the 400-yard individual medley, the 100-yard butterfly, the 200-yard freestyle, the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard breaststroke. The finals portion of the day will also contain the 400-yard medley relay final heat.
