Falcons Prepare for Friday Meeting with Zips

Bowling Green, Ohio—The Bowling Green State University women's swim team will close the 2009-10 regular season with a Friday meet against the Zips in Akron, Ohio. The meet is set to kick off at 5 p.m. at Ocasek Natatorium.
Friday's meet against the Zips will also be senior Meg Richardson's last regular season MAC meet of her collegiate career.
The Falcons and the Zips will enter Friday's meet with an equal 1-5 record in Mid-American Conference
competition.
Scouting the Zips
With a 1-5 record in the MAC, the Zips will also be fighting to improve their record one final time this season before the MAC Championship kicks off at the end of the month. The Zips have been defeated by Ohio, Miami (Ohio), Eastern Michigan, Buffalo and Toledo. Their sole MAC win came in a meet against Ball State in November.
At their own invitational, the Zippy Invitational, the Zips finished third out of 13 teams. At the invitational, Akron overcame Illinois State University, Duquesne, Clarion, Xavier, Shippensburg, Bloomsburg, St. Bonaventure, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Niagara and Cleveland State. The only two teams to out swim the Zips at the Zippy Invitational were MAC foes, Ohio and Buffalo.
At the 2009 MAC Championships, the Zips took fifth place for a total of 347 points.
Zip times in the MAC
• Senior Stephanie Zielinski holds the third and ninth fastest times in the MAC in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events as well as ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
• Senior Cathryn Collins ranks eighth in the 200, sixth in the 500 and tenth in the 1000-yard freestyle events. She also holds the 13th spot in 100-yard butterfly and second in the 200 fly.
• Senior Julia Gregos holds the 15th fastest time in the 1650-yard freestyle and the eleventh time in the 1000 free.
• Senior Kendall Karchner is currently the second fastest in both the 100-and 200-yard backstroke events.
• Freshman Kelsea Cross ranks 12th in the 200 IM and 14th in the 400 IM.
• Freshman Rachel Szymkowiak holds the 17th and 13th spots in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events, respectively.
