Two Falcons Earn Academic All-MAC Honors

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—With the 2009-10 women's swimming season under wraps, two more Falcons continue to earn top honors in the Mid-American Conference. Senior Meg Richardson, of Springfield, Ohio, and sophomore Kristen Tetuan, from Toledo, Ohio, have been named Academic All-MAC, as announced by the conference office March 25, 2010.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for the student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests in their respective sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for this award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only will be considered.
Amongst being one of the most decorated members on the BGSU women's swimming team, Meg Richardson also takes care of business in the classroom, maintaining a 3.467 GPA as an adolescent/young adult secondary education major. Richardson is also the president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. At the 2009-10 MAC Championships, Richardson broke three individual BGSU records and was a member of the record-breaking 800-yard freestyle relay squad. Richardson broke individual records in the 50-yard freestyle (23.09), taking ninth; the 100-yard freestyle (50.36), taking sixth; and the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.82), taking seventh. In relay races she assisted in the fourth place 400-yard freestyle relay squad, the fifth place 200-yard freestyle relay squad and the sixth place 400-yard medley relay squad.
Kristen Tetuan boasts the highest GPA of all of the members on the 2009-10 swimming squad, upholding a 3.926 GPA as a pre-athletic training major. At the 2009-10 MACs, Tetuan swam her personal fastest time of the season in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing the race in 1:00.15.
