Brazil native to join BGSU program this fall
Bowling Green State University women's soccer coach Andy Richards and his staff have announced the addition of Ivi Casagrande to the program. Casagrande, a native of Belo Horizonte, Brazil (The American School of Belo Horizonte), will join the Falcons this fall.

Casagrande joins an incoming class that includes Morgan Burgner (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth), Kylie Briem (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek), Alyssa Carmack (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg), Matti Chappelle (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II), Ashley Miller (Findlay, Ohio/Findlay), Amanda Nelson (Overland Park, Kansas/St. Thomas Aquinas), Kailey Paszko (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee), Kaitlyn Tobin (Bay City, Mich./John Glenn), Tracy Togba (Orange Village, Ohio/Hawken) and Madeline Wideman (Troy, Mich./Troy).
Casagrande, an offensive midfielder, has played at The American School of Belo Horizonte for the past three semesters. She has attended three tournaments – ISSL (International Schools Soccer League) Seasons I and II and the Daquiprafora Soccer Cup (the first interscholastic soccer tournament involving local Brazilian schools in Belo Horizonte, Brazil) – and was named to the all-star team at each of the three.
During the 2009-10 high-school season, Casagrande has scored 10 goals and added 16 assists. In 2007, Casagrande was pre-selected for the Brazilian U17 National Team. In the classroom, she currently maintains a 3.73 grade-point average.
“We are extremely excited to earn Ivi's verbal commitment,” said Richards. “Ivi is an extremely skillful player who possesses a very powerful left foot, which makes her dangerous on free kicks and corner kicks.
“She will be the first international student-athlete in the history of the program to wear the orange and brown, and will add both flair and technical skill to the team.”
The Falcons open the 2010 regular season on Aug. 22 with a home match vs. Cincinnati. Richards and Company lose the services of six seniors off of the 2009 team.
