Falcons Host Central, Eastern Michigan; Launch into MAC Play

Falcons Finally Come Home!
After 49 days, three tournaments and 15 contests, the Falcons will finally play their season debut at Meserve Softball Field with a doubleheader against the Central Michigan Chippewas (April 2), beginning at 1:00 p.m. BGSU will then take on the Eastern Michigan Eagles in back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday (April 3 and April 4), with games beginning at 2:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively. Of the 34 contests BGSU will compete in throughout the 2010 campaign, the team will host only eight at home.

Bowling Green State University softball head coach Shannon Salsburg and the Falcons swing into Mid-American Conference competition as they prepare for a weekend full of softball action, including a doubleheader against CMU and back-to-back games against EMU. In addition to opening MAC play, this weekend will commence home action for the Falcons.
The Falcons will open the home portion of their schedule with a doubleheader against CMU at 1:00 p.m. on Friday (April 2). The Chippewas are currently on a five-game winning streak in non-conference play, and have racked up an overall record of 12-7 so far this season. In 2009, CMU finished sixth in the MAC West (12-31 overall, 4-17 MAC), but were tabbed to finish fourth in their division in 2010. Last season, the Falcons defeated the Chippewas, 7-6 in eight innings.
BGSU will wrap-up its weekend home opener with back-to-back games against EMU on Saturday (April 3) and Sunday (April 4), with games set to begin at 2:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively. The Eagles are currently 6-13 in non-conference play and are on a four-game losing streak. EMU finished the 2009 season in fourth in the MAC West (22-30 overall, 9-4 MAC), but was chosen to finish fifth in the 2010 MAC preseason poll. Since the first meeting between these two teams in 1980, BGSU is 45-35 all-time against the Eagles.

Of the six freshmen on the 2010 Falcon squad, three have started 13-13 games and are making some serious contributions to the 2010 campaign. Those three Falcons, Hannah Fulk, Andrea Arney and Paige Berger are leading the team in batting averages; Berger Fronts the Falcon squad with a .306 batting average, while Fulk is right behind her in second (.303) and Arney in third (.286). Amongst leading the team's batting average, Berger also leads the team in hits (11), RBIs (9) and homers (5), while Fulk leads the team's on-base percentage (.511), doubles (4) and is the most walked (12) Falcon so far this season.
Hannah Fulk Named MAC Player of the Week
Hannah Fulk, a freshman from Jeromesville, Ohio, was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, as released by the conference office on Tues., Feb. 23, 2010. Fulk played in and started all four of the Falcon's games at shortstop at the Red and Black Classic in Athens, Ga. She contributed to the Falcons 2-2 tournament record,posting five hits for the team, including three doubles and one homerun—the first of her career as a Falcon-- that resulted in a .500 batting average, a .667 on-base percentage and 1.100 slugging percentage. Fulk's first career home run came in the top of the third inning against the No. 6 Georgia Bulldogs that resulted in two RBI's. Fulk had one double in BGSU's win over Western Carolina and two doubles against Winthrop, one of which helped the Falcons take a 9-7 lead in the top of the sixth, before falling to the Eagles in the bottom of the inning. At the tournament Fulk was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen bases and was walked a total of five times.
