Blanton Earns Second Straight ESPN The Magazine Academic Award

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Bowling Green senior outfielder #T.J. Blanton# is finishing a career-defining season on the diamond after being one of multiple Falcons on the road to concluding his academic studies at BGSU. In recognition for his outstanding scholarly work, he has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team.

Blanton, a health science major, finished the spring semester with a 3.32 grade point average and currently holds a 3.31 cumulative GPA. He will finish his program this summer and graduate in August. Blanton has been accepted into the Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program at the University of Toledo and will begin his graduate studies in the fall.
A Sandusky, Ohio native, Blanton has earned the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honor for the second-straight year after being named to the second team in 2009. He was also named to the Academic All-MAC team in 2009.
In order to qualify for the honor, athletes must possess a minimum of a 3.30 grade point average, maintain
sophomore status or higher and be a starter or a key reserve for their respective team. The award is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA).
On the diamond in 2010, Blanton has amounted numbers that currently serve as a team highs in six offensive categories. After playing and starting all of the Falcon's 44 games this season, he has a team-high in runs (53), home runs (12), RBI (42), total bases (115), and slugging percentage (.689). He has also been hit by pitch a team-most 11 times this season in. Blanton ranks second in stolen bases with 15 in 20 attempts, a mark that is also good for fourth in the Mid-American Conference. His .389 batting average is second on the team and serves as seventh in the conference.
Blanton joins three other MAC players on the District 4 All-Academic Team. Eastern Michigan pitcher Corey Chaffins, Akron infielder Kevin Haas and Kent State infielder Kyle McMillen all join Blanton on this prestigious list of worthy candidates. All student-athletes will be put on the ballot for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American team to be released before the MAC Tournament begins.
