BGSU faces Niagara, St. Bonaventure this weekend
The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team takes to the road for the first time this season ... the Falcons of head coach Andy Richards head to Western New York for a pair of matches this weekend, facing Niagara University on Friday evening (Sept. 3), and taking on Saint Bonaventure Universitiy on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 5) ... Friday's match will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Niagara Field ... Sunday's match starts at 1:00 p.m. at SBU's McGraw-Jennings Field.

The Falcons dropped a pair of matches at Cochrane Field over the weekend, falling to West Virginia, 3-0, on Friday (Aug. 27), then losing a 3-2 decision to Xavier on Sunday (Aug. 29) ... on Friday, a WVU goal exactly 20 minutes into the match gave the visitors the lead for good, and the Mountaineers put the game away with a pair of second-half goals ... Sunday's back-and-forth game saw Xavier take a 1-0 lead into the half, but junior Katelyn Turner tied the score just 26 seconds into the second half ... senior Katie Stephenson scored to give the Falcons the lead less than eight minutes later ... but, an own goal enabled XU to tie the score, and the visitors got the eventual winning goal on a BG defensive breakdown in the 77th minute ... redshirt sophomore Becca Ison and true soph Laura Arnold split time in goal in each match ... senior Alicia Almond, a co-captain along with Stephenson, had assists on both of BGSU's goals vs. XU.

FALCON COACH ANDY RICHARDS
BGSU head coach Andy Richards, in his 11th season at the helm, has proven himself to be one of the most successful mentors in MAC women's soccer history ... he has guided the Falcons to an overall record of 98-99-22, and a record of 53-49-12 in MAC regular-season play ... in his first 10 years in BG, Richards led the Falcons to the MAC Tournament on eight occasions, leading the team to the semifinals seven times ... BGSU is 10-5-5 in MAC Tournament matches during his tenure, and no coach has more trips to the league tourney title game than Richards' five ... two of those appearances – in 2004 and 2005 – resulted in MAC Tournament titles and trips to the NCAA Championships ... Richards and the Falcons also won the '05 regular-season crown ... a native of Warwick, England, Richards earned his Bachelor of Education degree from Sheffield City Polytechnic in 1989 ... he received his Master of Education degree from Oregon State in 1997.

HELPING OUT
Senior co-captain Alicia Almond had the first two-assist game of her career, with helpers on both of the Falcons' goals against Xavier ... additionally, it was the first two-assist contest by a Falcon since Leah Johnson had a pair of assists in BGSU's win at Detroit last Sept. 4.
A HISTORY OF BOUNCING BACK
The Falcons are off to an 0-3 start for the first time since 2003 ... that '03 squad began the regular season with four consecutive losses, but bounced back to advance all the way to the championship match of the MAC Tournament.
